    Citadel Buster MDB vs MDT vs Light

    I was wondering how Magic Defense Bonus compares to Magic Damage Taken Down gear on Citadel Buster.

    Volunteer's ring vs Merman's ring for example.

    I've also tried a light resist set with carol for fun one time. I got hit for 1200~ish down from the 2000~ish it hit the guy next to me for.

    What does the damage reduction look like for the other 2 sets? Does something like dream shroud or diffusion saline coat protect enough on its own?

    Cap your Magic Damage Taken first. With Shellra V you only need ~25% in equipment. After that you should optimize the most Magic Defense Bonus you can while keeping Magic Damage Taken capped.

    You're not going to resist Citadel Buster, don't even bother trying to use Light Resistance unless there's no alternative.

    I really dont feel like doing all the damage calculations now, but with 23% -MDT set, a whm with capped shellra 5 (27% -MDT) for the 50% cap, I beleve the base is 1200ish worst case (lightsday). If it isnt lightsday it is around 900, and if you have a scholar to negate the double light weather its around 700. I think the lowest ive ever gotten is ~570 with rampart popped right before it went off.

    I.R. Lance 10%
    2x mermans ring 8%
    Resentment cape 5%

    If your whm doesnt have capped shellra 5, you can use askar feet (-2%) to make up for it.
    Iron ram gear is great for loading up on MDB also.

    Weather effects come from the caster, not the receiver.

    Ah yes, anyway here is the thread where you can figure out the calculations...So the "no weather" calculations I guess would not apply because its always double light.

    Proto-Ultima is apparently a Lv85 mob, with MAB of 400 and a Citadel Buster's Mult being 6 (from http://blog.livedoor.jp/bozecaitsith.../50746981.html).

    (85+2)*6*1.0*400/100*1=2088
    ((85+2)*6*1.10);*400/100*1=2296
    ((85+2)*6*1.25);*400/100*1=2608
    ((85+2)*6*1.30);*400/100*1=2712

    Those are the unresisted damage from no weather/day, day (10%), double weather (25%) and day/weather (30%).

    If you have MDB of 12%, then you'll see:

    ((85+2)*6*1.0*400/112);*1=1864
    (((85+2)*6*1.30);*400/112);*1=2421

    That's best and worst case scenario. If you can get MDT of 50%, then at most CB will do 1210 (2421*128/256) with MDB of 12%.

    Edit: Use Defending Ring and Minerva's Ring if you have them, and swap out more Magic Damage Reduction.

    When mana screen is up, every shell Ive had just has the melee zerg the hell out of it for 30 full seconds and take the hit.

    NIN/DRK doesn't have as much magic gear as other jobs, but we do get resentment cape which is pretty nice for this. I went with both Merman's rings and earrings, resentment cape, lieutenant sash, and merited Shell V.

    I took about 4 CBs to the face and survived (600-800dmg) which was pretty much the goal.

    MDT > MDB imo. Our PLD took three CBs and survived with the following equipment:

    IR lance (Damage taken -10%)
    IR sallet (MDB +3)
    IR dastanas (MDB +2)
    IR hose (MDB +4)
    IR greaves (MDB +3)
    Merman's earrings x2 (MDT -2% each)
    Merman's rings x2 (MDT -4% each)
    Lamian kaman +1 (MDB +2)
    Resentment cape (Outside nation control: MDT -5%)

    Total:
    MDT -27%
    MDB +14

    All of the pieces are easily obtainable but will take some time. The rest of the gear was HP and enmity stuff. Good luck.

    -mdt% has increasing returns up until the point it caps (~50% if I recall correctly). MDB has decreasing returns but does not cap.
