mmm, do love me some swollen pickle.

I just personally always thought the Ram's Head was the best for Les Pauls. (Personal opinion of course, lol.) One of these days I want to build me a BYOC version. Everything I keep reading says they really duplicated the vintage Ram Head perfectly.

Never tried a ram's head, haven't even been using my tubescreamer/wah lately; been on a Sublime kick, few fun solos but upstrumming partial chords is a little awkward. On the subject of distortion, in my experience I prefer a cranked amp in itself for distortion (especially a marshall <3), unless I need a little extra fuzz on top. I remember from WW you being a musician but I don't remember instrument/music style?

I'm mostly a bass player (electric and upright), but I also play guitar, woodwinds, mandolin, appalachian dulcimer, keyboards, and currently learning bagpipes. In fact the show I'm doing right now I'm playing both bass and keyboards.

I mostly do Jazz and Musicals. Personally can't stand doing the normal band thing. Only so many times you can play the same 20 songs before you want to put a gun barrel in your mouth....

Didn't know you played so many instruments, you're a regular Serj Tankian :3 I hear you on the band thing though, I mostly just jot down riffs and lyric ideas in that orange manuscript book as they come to me, I think of riffs at the weirdest times, I was riding the goliath at six flags when the main riff for the song I'm working on now came to me. whenever I sit down and TRY to think of shit I either get nothing or I write something out, read it and think it looks familiar; then play it and realize it's an [insert famous band here] riff :/

ya, same for me. I can't write music to save my life. I'll start something, get going, tell myself "hey, this sounds pretty good!" And then realize 2 minutes later: "Wait...I know this...DAMNIT!"

I do orchestrations and transcriptions though.

You write it out by hand or try using a program? Back when I wrote, I used Powertab to keep track of my music and it was so much easier to look at stuff and know when I was accidentally ripping off.

I mostly use Sibelius. But I sometimes do by hand. Although my chicken scratch music manuscript is like trying to read hieroglyphics.

So happy I built my own desk, my monitors are too big to fit next to each other with most of these ikea models I'm seeing.

Think I gotta install a monstrous keyboard trey though.

It took me forever to find a jerker suitable for my taste(Most were the birch color). This one I just found last week in St. Paul Minnesota for $90. Its almost perfect condition minus a few small scratches on the pillars(below the main work surface.)

The Aeron Deluxe chair I got for a steal at only 400 bucks off ebay from a guy selling some stuff for his brother(retail $1100+). Score imo.

Took me awhile to assemble the pieces I wanted but so happy I waited.

Yeah lot of aerons for 350-600 on ebay and craigslist, it's where most of the people on the forum got theirs.

Ok so, I have a decent leather chair but, these Aeron chairs, are they worth it?

Never had the chance to sit in one.

Not bad, but I personally wouldn't pay more than $200ish for one.

Okay this is a heated debate on some sites so i'm just going to throw out the reasons i've gathered why most people love/like/hate/dislike them. In the end its obviously up to you to decide if its right for you.

Comfort. Its a unique chair in the aspect that it will feel different for everyone. I work with a lot of individuals sitting in them all day long and the opinions i've gathered range from its nothing special to absolute bliss. I personally never would have bought this chair if I didn't sit in it on a daily basis and know just how much I love it.

Art. To some people a piece that not only sits well but is aesthetically pleasing is important and the Aeron soo many people view the Aeron a work of art that it has had a permanent seat in the New York Museum of Modern Art since its design in 1992.

Construction. As much that went into ergonomics went into structural integrity. Its a beast, its heavy and well made most people still have their Aerons from 1992 and you should for $1000+ retail. Mine is 9 years old and still functions like it were new, the ones my employer has are 15years old and still sit well(imo mine at work sits better than the one I have at home so better with age?).

All that being said I honestly probably wouldn't have bought the chair if I didn't utilize it on a daily basis it just seems like a big gamble for something that you'll be using everyday. If you were to buy one id suggest going to a dealer to get the feel for one first...then go home and buy a used one off ebay. Great product, very satisfied!

I've gone to staples and sat in more comfortable chairs for sure... I've also bought those chairs and they lose the padding and the comfort in about a month.

If you spend 3-12hours on a computer, obviously you are going to go through your 200$ chair from staples in a couple months. The Aeron feels the same every time I sit in it, it's nothing hugely special, it's not this amazingly comfortable chair, but it's the same every damn time I sit down. It doesn't wear out, it lasts for 10+ years, etc.

So why buy a 100-250$ chair every few months to a year, when you can buy one chair for 400-600 and not have to replace it for 10yrs?

It's an investment to me, I didn't want to spend this much money on a chair, but sitting in it as many hours as I do, and going through chairs so fast, it was worth it.

My grandparents bought three of them for their (home) office awhile back, like 10+ years ago, and they are still in great condition, so... +3?

I like them well enough, but I do enjoy my leather chair very very much in the winter when it's like cold and I can snuggle up in it at the computer :3
