(Beverly Hills, Calif.) January 30, 2012 –Relativity Media has partnered with global branded play company Hasbro, Inc. [NASDAQ-HAS] to develop and produce a live-action tent-pole film based on Stretch Armstrong, the iconic action hero figure launched in the 1970s, it was announced today by Relativity’s Co-President, Tucker Tooley and Hasbro’s President and CEO, Brian Goldner.

Relativity will be the domestic distributor and will release the film internationally through its network of foreign output partners. The film is targeted for an April 11, 2014 release date.

The film will be produced by Relativity’s CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter), Hasbro’s Goldner (Transformers) and Bennett Schneir, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Motion Pictures (Battleship). Tooley (Immortals) will serve as executive producer.

Hasbro has become an entertainment powerhouse by creating hit movies and television shows from its rich portfolio of world class brands. Since 2007, Hasbro’s Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises have grossed nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office. 2012 is shaping up to be another stellar year for Hasbro with its partners Universal Pictures releasing Battleship in April and Paramount Pictures releasing G.I. Joe: Retaliation in June. In television, Hasbro Studios produces shows like Transformers Prime and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic that can be seen on the HUB television network in the U.S. and in more than 140 countries globally.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Hasbro, a company whose global reach and ability to innovate has made them immensely successful in the arena of brand re-imagination– as evidenced by their legacy of creating such franchises as Transformers and G.I. Joe,” said Tooley, “We look forward to bringing Stretch Armstrong to audiences worldwide.”

“Stretch Armstrong is a great example of Hasbro’s rich portfolio of intellectual properties that we are continuing to develop globally,” said Goldner, “We are excited to partner with Relativity on this movie as they are a growing and innovative studio.”

Stretch Armstrong is the classic action hero figure first launched by Hasbro in 1976 and re-launched in the 90’s, sold successfully throughout North America and in markets across the world. The original Stretch’s unique design broke free of traditional action figures, as he could be stretched over and over and always returned back to his original size. The nostalgic toy is considered to be rare and collectible to this day.

Relativity recently released Oscar®-winner Steven Soderbergh’s dynamic action-thriller Haywire in theatres. Looking ahead, Relativity will release the the heart-pounding Navy SEAL action-thriller Act of Valor (in theatres February 24, 2012) and magical adventure comedy Mirror Mirror (in theatres March 30, 2012), starring Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Nathan Lane, and Armie Hammer. The studio just wrapped production on the comedy 21 and Over and is currently in pre-production on Nicholas Sparks’ gripping love story Safe Haven and the international espionage thriller Hunter Killer.

The studio and producer that brought you Cowboys & Aliens, Platinum Studios and Scott Rosenber, are set to adapt the comic book The Weapon into a feature film. For those of you not familiar with the comic, here's the story breakdown:

Martial arts enthusiast Tommy Zhou invented a means to create solid objects from light—and invented a superhero persona to promote it, The Weapon! He even concocted an origin story for himself based on ancient Chinese legends, his grandfather told him, as a child. What Tommy never suspected, though, were that his grandfather's legends were real—and now an all-too real millennia-old assassin cult, the Lin Kuie, (Forest Demons) is after him, convinced he's unlocked ancient mystical techniques of Order of Wu-Shi-'The Way of the Weapon'--and they're sending waves of killers after him to steal it back.

Tommy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii's Chinatown. A third generation Chinese American, raised by his grandfather. He accused his grandfather of clinging to the old ways of a country, they could never return to, knowing they would never be accepted by the racist society they had entered. His family name of Zhou may be a disambiguation of the Zhou Dynasty.

The Zhou dynasty lasted longer than any other dynasty in Chinese history—though the actual political and military control of China by the dynasty only lasted during the Western Zhou.
In a statement, Rosenberg said, "We believe The Weapon will be an attractive project for both international film financers and Hollywood producers. This property is one of those with enormous franchise potential."

This film was actually announced way back in 2009, and at the time, Platinum had teamed up with Disney channel star David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) ,who was supposed to play the lead role. The project obviously got pushed aside for a few years and has now been resurrected. There's no mention of Henrie's involvement in today's news though, so I imagine he's not a part of it anymore.

The Weapon was written by New York Times bestselling author Fred Van Lente, who is also the bestselling author of Marvel Zombies, Incredible Hercules (with Greg Pak), and Odd Is On Our Side (with Dean R. Koontz), as well as Cowboys & Aliens.

Jeremy Reins (Dorff) is about to have a very bad day. He wakes up in total darkness, confused and disoriented. The only light comes from the blood-red digital numbers ticking away above his head. Jeremy quickly realizes he's in trouble. It's hard to breath. He can barely move. And no one will answer his cries for help. Then, he hears the sound of an engine and it all becomes clear...he's trapped in the trunk of a moving car.

As his captors reveal themselves and their motives, Jeremy realizes he won't be set free until he gives up the whereabouts of "Roulette," a secret location where the U.S. President is taken in the event of a terrorist attack.
Basically it is a re-imagining of Buried which Ryan Reynolds was in.

NBC is doing it's best to remaind us that their reboot of The Munsters is an “imaginative reinvention” that will have only a small resemblance to the classic ’60s show. TV Line reports that the network has given the show a new title. The pilot title has been changed from The Munsters to Mockingbird Lane, which nods at the family's iconic Victorian house located at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and Bryan Singer are stewarding the show. Casting is currently underway. This is one reboot that never should have been given the green light.

Walt Disney Pictures' fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Over the years we've heard about several different attempts to get Star Trek back on the small screen. It looks like there's a possibility that it could actually happen. For those of you who didn't know, Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Voyager) and Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) have each separately tried to develop a Star Trek. They're now looking to team up on their efforts to make it happen.

This collaboration came about while developing the new Munsters TV series on NBC called Mockingbird Lane. The news comes from AICN, which reports,

Fuller tells AICN exclusively that the two Bryans, who have long (but separately) contemplated new “Star Trek” TV series, have discussed the possibility of pooling their resources to take a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen. Hopefully J.J. Abrams and Les Moonves will give them the keys to Starfleet HQ.

In a dystopian future, a relentless turf war rages. Two rival gangs feud for control of rural wasteland Frazier Park ('The FP') in the deadly arena of competitive dance-fight video game "Beat-Beat Revelation." After hometown hero BTRO is slain on the dance platform by thug leader L Dubba E, his protégé younger brother JTRO (Jason Trost) goes into isolation, vowing never to duel again. One year later, The FP is in ruins, and JTRO must find the courage to return and restore order in a ruthless battle for revenge that can only leave one man dancing. From the producers of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and featuring narration by James Remar (THE WARRIORS), THE FP is a fury of fierce footwork, triumphant montages and neon street wear that Moviefone calls "a rare ready-made cult hit.
The movie is set to be released in select theaters on March 16th, 2012.

As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.

For those who saw RED, you were treated to one of the best comedies of 2010. If you liked it as much as I did, then you will be happy to know that the stars of the movie are said to star in the sequel. No contracts are signed, so anything can happen. However, according to THR Willis, Freeman, Mirren, and Malkovich are all on board.

The one change, so far, is that a new director is going to be sitting behind the camera. Fun With Dick And Jane director Dean Parisot is in final negotiations to take over for Robert Schwentke. Filming is planned to start after Willis is done filming Die Hard 5. The word on the street is that due to the huge success of the first film (over $200 million worldwide), Summit is banking on this being the franchise that takes over for their wildly popular Twilight Saga which ends later this year.

Black Bull Media’s comic book series The New West has just been picked up by Benderspink and Wizard Magazine founder Gareb Shamus, who have teamed up to give us a feature film adaptation of the western. The 2005 two issue series was written by Jimmy Palmiotti with art created by Phil Noto.

Here's a little description of the story:

Our story begins with a disgraced former Los Angeles Police detective Daniel Wise, who endures a near future deserted hostile LA environment where the Mayor has now been kidnapped and an electronic pulse bomb causes all technology to stop working. Daniel Wise is the only one who can save him, but can he do it with just a horse and sword?

Bandito Brothers, the production company that is bringing us the upcoming Navy SEAL action film Act of Valor, is now planning a new film production that will focus on the world of underground racing called High Speed. Deadline describes High Speed as a "gritty, stylized car chase" film, and it sounds awesome!

The story centers around the best high-speed police pursuit drivers in the country, assembled as a unit to stop and elusive, high-end underground racing circuit hellbent on running deadly point-to-point races through major American Cities.
That sounds like a pretty badass movie to me. It definitely seems like it will be bigger and more epic than the Fast and Furious movies. This is a movie I want to see, and just reading that little story summary makes me wish I was a high speed police pursuit driver. My question is... are they going to go out and actually cast real police pursuit drivers like they did with the Navy SEALs? That would be amazing!

High Speed will be directed by Scott Waugh, who co-directed Act of Valor, and it will be written by Greg Russo. The movie most likely won't go into production until 2013 because of a film they are developing with Arnold Schwarzenegger called Black Sands.

It's called "A Good Day to Die Hard" and it's opening Valentine's Day 2013. Not sure if I'm excited or not. Hoping they take it back to an R-rating. However, if it's true that I could get behind it.
