It's a big day for the Scott brothers! Earlier today it was announced that Ridley Scott would direct a new Blade Runner movie, which got fans like myself crazy excited. Now it being reported that his partner and brother Tony Scott is looking to direct a remake of the 1969 western classic The Wild Bunch. Regardless of this being a remake, Tony Scott directing a western could turn out to be pretty damn cool.

The Wild Bunch is one of my favorite westerns, and I have no problem with a remake as long as it turns out to be awesome. Remember, 3:10 to Yuma was a remake and it turned out to be a great film. The story follows an aging group of outlaws looking for one last big score as the "traditional" American West is disappearing around them. The original film starred William Holden, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan and Warren Oates.

Before Scott takes a trip to the old west, he will direct a film called Hell's Angels which he is currently developing. He is hoping to get Jeff Bridges on board to play gang leader Sonny Barger, but he has yet to meet with the actor. Bridges would be awesome in the role though!

Hell's Angels is set around the Laughlin Nevada riots of 2001 when the Angels were caught up in a war with rival gang The Mongols. The drama revolves around a friendship that develops between Barger and a young drifter mechanic with a gift for fixing motorcycles.

On top of that Scott is still working on developing a new Top Gun movie. Scott's got a lot of stuff going on, and it all sounds like the would make for pretty cool movies, a couple other movies his name has been attached to are Nemesis, Potzdamer Platz, and The Associate.

Machine Gun Preacher is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling as the savior of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster's (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption. When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed--in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens. But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives--and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper's Penguins), Academy Award(R) nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleymane Sy Savane ("Damages").

    Oldboy remake?!

Josh Brolin to Star in Spike Lee's 'Oldboy'
Will bring his uniquely gruff presence to the vengeance-minded thriller
Posted by Corwin Neuse Tuesday, August 30, 2011 9:06:48 AM

The hammer is one of man's greatest and most versatile inventions. It has been used throughout history in construction; as a paperweight; as a means of coercion; as a passive-aggressive hint to finally fix up the garage like you promised; and, in the memorable South Korean revenge flick "Oldboy," as a weapon.

"Oldboy" tells the story of a man who is kidnapped and kept in solitary confinement for fifteen years without any explanation. Upon his eventual release, he seeks revenge against those who destroyed his life and imprisoned him. Sounds like a compelling story in any language, right?

That's what DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg thought. They originally proposed an American remake starring Will Smith back in 2008, but nothing came of it besides a script by "I Am Legend" screenwriter Mark Protosevich. Three years later, the project has somehow ended up in the (admittedly imminently capable) hands of Spike Lee. But who would replace Will Smith in the starring role?

According to Deadline, the producers have settled on Josh Brolin, the brusque, intense star of such films as "W." and "No Country for Old Men," and the owner of one of the more versatile mustaches in Hollywood. While he may lack the pedigree and box-office pull of Will Smith—or even frequent Spike Lee collaborator Denzel Washington—can we see him running around Los Angeles (or wherever) terrorizing gangsters with a 15 oz. Dewalt Steel MIG Weld Hammer from Home Depot©? Absolutely!

What do you think, Hitlisters? Is Josh Brolin a compelling choice for this character? Or is the film doomed to failure, suffering in comparison to the classic original?

That's some Fast & Furious type logic. So in that timeline it would be episode 2 of 5.

The last couple of years we've been hearing that Roland Emmerich's Independence Day was going to be getting a couple of sequels. Today we have word that Emmerich and his old producing and screenwriting partner Dean Devlin are currently putting the finishing touches on the back-to-back sequel scripts that they have been developing, and they hope to have it turned into the studio by December. At this point there's still no information of if Will Smith will be back to reprise his role as Captain Stephen Hiller. Fox has been trying to get him to sign on to the project since 2009, and the reason a deal hasn't been made yet is because the actor wants $50 freakin million dollars, which just seems ridiculous for any actor.

According to an insider, "The delay wasn’t about whether they both wanted to make the movie. It had more to do with whose dick is bigger." Apparently Fox is willing to make the movies without Smith, if they need to, but Smith would bring in the big money.

Smith is currently shooting Men in Black III and is also loosely attached to star in M. Night Shaymalan's film One Thousand A.E. with his son Jaden, but the production on that is moving incredibly slow. So if Smith did decide to make the movie he's not really fully committed to anything. The source also says,

It’s complicated because of where and how [Smith] wants to shoot; he wants to be close to home, to the kids. There’s also been talks about him wanting to include Jada and maybe even Willow in the movie, too. [Sony] just managed to get through the mire that was Men in Black 3 and so they’re just trying to avoid anything remotely similar. They want the story straight, and want Will to sign off on it, totally, before they proceed.
Look, I'm sure Smith's kids will be just fine if they don't get a part in a film their dad is in. There's not much known about the sequels but Vulture says that, they will tell a single story, but will be engineered more in the Back to the Future Parts 2 and 3 sequential-but-not-imperative model than like the last two Harry Potters, which was essentially one movie split in two. As the insider puts it, “They’re intended to be fulfilling movies onto themselves — you could see each separately and enjoy them — but they tell one big story.” Roland previous siad that Smiths character could end up being the President of the United States, and that It would be "an alternate reality kind of movie. We pick up the story, what would have happened after this kind of attack? Naturally, the alien technology has changed everything."

Paul Walker is may jump into the lead role of an American remake of Luc Besson's Disctrict B13. Deadline reports that Walker is in talks to star in Brick Mansions, which will be scripted by Besson (who co-wrote the original) and Robert Mark Kamen (Taken). Parkour creator, David Belle, who starred in the first film and it's sequel District 13: Ultimatum is slated to star opposite Walker. Besson refused to make the film without Belle in the role.

Mansions will likely take place in Chicago, and will have Walker as "an undercover detective chasing a weapon of mass destruction that was stolen by a drug dealer in the ghetto known as Brick Mansions. He seeks help from the incredibly agile Lino (Belle), who knows Brick Mansions better than anyone and is the only person not cowering in fear of the drug dealers." The film will be produced by Besson’s Europa Corp.

Pierre Morel directed the first film and also helmed Taken and From Paris With Love. This film will not be directed by Morel, instead Besson has an unnamed protege lined up. We will keep you posted on who is announced. I know many people don't like Walker, but as a huge fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, I am excited to see him take on other roles. I enjoyed the first film, but could not finish the sequel. I normally think that American remakes are not a good idea, but this is one film that could actually benefit from one.

This blurb pisses me off a little. B13 is one of my favorite international action flicks & I really don't want to see it get fucked up by an American director.

Is he even that agile? I kinda like some of Walkers movies but I can't picture him in this type of movie. I'll be sad if Cyril is not in for a cameo.

'Independence Day 2' and '3' Happening With Or Without Will Smith
Roland Emmerich, Dean Devlin, and Fox determined to make the sequels back-to-back
Posted by Corwin Neuse Thursday, October 27, 2011 1:28:58 PM
Ever since "Independence Day" earned $800 million worldwide back in 1996—the equivalent of something like $1.4 billion today—talk has run rampant about the potential for a sequel. Well, it's only taken 15 years, but how about two?

Vulture is reporting that Roland Emmerich and estranged former cohort Dean Devlin are currently putting the finishing touches on the scripts for "Independence Day 2" and "Independence Day 3," with an eye towards shooting both sequels back-to-back. For its part, 20th Century Fox has been in negotiations with star Will Smith since 2009 about his possible return, but Smith is adamant in his demands for $50 million upfront. (By way of comparison, nobody, not even Johnny Depp, makes that much.) Smith's unwillingness to back down from said demands—and also his recent insistence on full creative control, not to mention the involvement of his wife, Jada, and daughter, Willow—has so far prevented the project from gaining any traction.

Should Smith back down from his seemingly exorbitant demands? Or should he stand on principle, as a symbolic stand-in for the voiceless 99% against the looming menace of Fox's dastardly, rapacious capitalistic exploitation? Let's not forget, the original made $1.4 billion. Billion! $50 million is chump change compared to the profits Fox stands to make, isn't it? And doesn't Mr. Smith have a right to his fair share? Or was this all just a facetious argument aimed to stir up controversy? You decide. Also, what're Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum? Chopped liver??

The Clash of the Titans remake sucked all kinds of ass in my opinion, but regardless of the films awfulness, it is getting a sequel, Wrath of the Titans, which is currently in production and won't hit theaters until March 20th of next year. Now we get the surprising news that Warner Bros. is moving forward with Clash of the Titans 3!?

The studio must be confident in the sequel because they have re-hired Wrath of the Titans scribes David Leslie Johnson and Dan Mazeau to write the script for the third instalment, which will continue the journey of the character Perseus played by Sam Wothington. So I guess no matter how close to death Perseus comes to in the upcoming sequel, we know that he won't die.

According to THR insiders say that "Agenor, a sidekick-like character played by Toby Kebbell, may also figure into the new story, as the second movie leaves the door open for the character’s return." So now we know that character wont die either in the movie.

The sequel will reunite Worthington with Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Danny Huston as the Greek gods, and and it also includes actors Edgar Ramirez, Rosamund Pike and Bill Nighy. I image many of the Greek god actors will return for the third movie as well.
