So let's talk about Susan Boyle

apologies if there's a thread on this already, but I didn't see one.

for those who haven't seen the video yet: YouTube - Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009 (With Lyrics)

I just love the look on simon's face the whole time she's singing. he looks like he's in heaven listening to her. if anyone in the world deserves a recording contract it's this woman right here. unbelievable. I will go ahead and admit that I cried a little bit watching this.

not even if I were straight, but I'd sure as hell hire her to sing at my gay wedding.

Let's not, even if she did get a record label she'd make a couple of albums then fade into obscurity like the rest of them.

come to think of it, you're right, she'd do much better in musical theatre.

She's a female version of Paul Potts. I always enjoy little stories like those. But good god, 47 years old and never been kissed? I felt sorry for her but then listening to her it seems like she is extremely happy.

that's what gets me about this. the idea of someone who's fat and ugly with a learning disability who has probably had a shit life for 47 years getting this kind of recognition and praise. I dunno, it's just... sweet. although I suppose it probably just makes a lot of people gag.

She was ok. I mean, yeah, not bad, but I guess that singing style gets annoying after 2minutes. Paul Potts was so much better, and I don't really care for opera.

Fucking fantastic. Love the song. Let her enjoy her moment, she deserves it. A lot of performers get far more attention for far less just because they look good.

exactly. if nothing else, it's a great reminder of just how much we all judge based on looks, and how wrong that can be. although I'm not saying it's always wrong. >_>

She certainly deserves the praise, but they are essentially milking this for the emotional response. It is kind of ironic really.

I thought she had a fantastic voice. I guess the way she spoke is what made me think she wouldn't have a gorgeous voice, but wow.

yeah, she's uh... not that great. not ear-splittingly terrible, but nothing remarkable either. i guess i don't see what all the fuss is about.

Saw her photo in yahoo, something about never been kissed or w/e. Still didn't know who she was. I actually skipped the OP's link and opened the dancers' one; then below saw the woman from yahoo.

The audience's reaction was priceless. If they had rotten eggs or vegetables before the performance, they would have thrown that shit at her. >_>

I wasn't moved, however she does have a viewtiful voice.

She has a great theatre voice , obviously not a pop record voice. I was amazed by it too, but I don't understand the whole "moved me to tears" phenomena.
