Do you think Music these days sucks?

I was watching the 100 greatest one-hit wonders of the 80s last night. I started thinking about the songs of the 2000s, and they suck compared to the songs of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Fucking 80s one-hit wonders are still better than any of the shit on the radio right now.

Then I thought about all these bands making comebacks and tours. Is music so bad now, that bands like Pearl Jam, Judas Priest and AC/DC, can still sell out and make a ton of money?

Cue the rickroll. Honestly with a couple of exceptions I think that music sucks right now. It's not creative, it all seems to be rehashes of the same exact shit. I miss the eighties.

You needn't look any further than those assholes who keep doing hip hop remixes of 80s songs like "You Spin Me Round" to know that the answer is yes.

They can't think of anything groundbreaking so they're just selling whatever people are dumb enough to buy and then they qq when people don't buy their albums.

No shit I won't buy your albums. Why am I going to buy something I can do at home for free? Give me some motivation to listen to your music and maybe I will.

If your music sucks, why am I going to waste my time?

The music industry here has become all about image and sampling. Rihanna, all those other people; they're all taking over the industry with beat-machine bullshit and rehashed good old fashioned music and an autotuning machine.

Here's a hint. Pressing a few buttons on a computer doesn't make you a musical genius.

The problem is that the so-called popular, radio-played top 40 music sucks SO MUCH now compared to even ten years ago. I listen to plenty of new music, but I can guaruntee you won't hear 95% of it on lame-ass pop radio stations.

I'm not sure if it's because we have access to a wider variety of bands via the internet or not, but I'm pretty sure it's a factor.

There has always been remakes of songs. When you remake a song, it should probably be as good if not better than the original. This has not been happening lately.

The punk niche is fine still, if you tune out the scene/'hardcore' Alesana / Cobra Starship / 3OH3! / etc bullshit. The Gaslight Anthem is probably the best thing to happen ever to music lately, being able to play a tour with Thrice/Alk3/Rise Against and then being able to turn around, do their own tour, and then go on tour with Bruce Springsteen. They can be on FUSE/MTV2 one day and VH1 and David Letterman the next.

Popular bands suck. I don't like listening to stuff that was first done in the 60's and 70's, just slightly rehashed and sold for more money.

Having said that, there are big waves being made in music, if you know where to look and at what genres. Atleast, I'm enjoying listening to music as much as ever in 2009.

I agree with this thread wholeheartedly. New music sucks with a few exceptions. Most of the music I am buying right now is either 90's or 60's/70's. The only good music I like that is new is from old bands that have come back.

The Pac-man fever song made me remember the other video game songs those guys made. And LOL @ Rappin Rodney! I agree with the #1 song too.

Yet another case of a unoriginal band butchering a song from the 80's:

YouTube - Seether - Careless Whisper

I agree with Blabj though, there's always decent music being made, you just have to look harder for it now than you did before... fortunately this is easy to do because of the internet.
