Fuck man, I'm so confused at this point that I think I have to buy the book.

Echoing, read the whole book. Believe me you'll be caught up before Episode 8 airs.
I cant read.
Tower of the Hand is a website (Google it I guess) that has a good summary of the chapters if you want to figure out which chapter you're on. I'm in the middle of A Feast for Crows, the 4th book, and you can change filters on the site to match how far you've gotten in the books (so you don't spoil yourself).
And two weeks is a long time to wait. At least I'm using my time wisely by hiking through a national park. LOL
Book is lengthy, probably a good 25-30 hours. If you have the time, you can knock it out in a week. The pace really picks up in the last half of the book, so I expect the show to only get more and more epic. Last half is much better than the first half, so be prepared for awesome episodes. 90% of the way finished, will finish tonight.
If, for nothing else, read the books for some really great direwolf scenes that you aren't getting in the show. It's a shame they couldn't get the dogs to cooperate, but I guess it's understandable.
I've read somewhere they're using CGI for the wolves in Season 2 and beyond. Hopefully we'll get a lot more screentime then. I want to see Grey Wind slashing bitches up.
haha wait til you get to Storm of Swords. wiki lists GoT paperback as 860ish pages, and SoS as 1216. and he said Dance with Dragons is just shy of SoS.
So, given everything that happened in episode 6, the puzzler for me is the part about Joffrey. I'm guessing they're introducing the concept that he could be Jaime and Cersei's child, either as a side effect of their relationship, or because of intentional inbreeding which also makes sense given the general opinion that's being pushed for the Lannisters as a whole.
The more confusing part is that as far as I know Robert hasn't touched Cersei any time recently -- could be totally wrong, I don't remember if they specify -- yet Jaime and Cersei are still fucking so if she were to get pregnant again, it would be pretty obvious someone's fucking her. I guess I could see that not being explored openly or publicly if it were seen as an insult to Robert's masculinity. Assuming any of this is even occurring, I'd be curious if birth defects or giveaways to inbreeding pop up. Joffrey certainly seems like one.
Would've loved to see a little extra thrown-in at the end of Tyrion's trial telling his Champion that he owes him a particularly huge debt. After not making comments on the last episode I realized I missed a lot of little details tying him and Tyrion together. I still don't even know what his name is or if he was ever named in a scene. It's interesting that he was brought along because during the scene in the Tavern, he isn't one of the men named by Cat nor is he even in the frame, that I saw, when everyone stands against Tyrion at the tail end. He gave his room away to Tyrion for money so it'd make sense if he came along as a mercenary, but from that scene it doesn't look like they'd need to hire anyone given all the volunteers.
Curious about what's happening with Gregor Clagane as well since the whole "yeah he chopped a horse's head off in one go" thing seems overly descriptive and specific -- how many horses is this guy losing his shit over? -- and the fish/Tully thing seemed random too. Still not sure what Littlefinger's comments were about during that time given they were incredibly obvious. Seems like it could be a hidden hand promoting the Stark/Lannister divide, maybe going along with Varys and Illyrio's conversation?
regarding the champion (explanation of the character from the books)

Makes much more sense, thanks.

If the season ends like the end of book 1.... its going to be a looooong ass miserable time between seasons for people who can't read
When people say they can't read...?
what the fuck lol not what I expected
That's what I mean, though, I thought they were saying "so this guy was huge and he chopped off a horse's head in one swing" as a reference to an entirely new horse, it just seems a little too "GUYS WHO DO WE KNOW WHO DOES THAT" given it just happened in broad daylight, unless The Mountain just has a history of this lol. Maybe it's just my own problem with the way they went about pointing to Gregor in the storyline, it just seemed obvious to the point of ginning up suspicion.
especially since Littlefinger was like "GUYS WHO DO WE KNOW WHO DOES THAT".
mfw when i realized game of thrones is essentially a compilation of idiots on /adv/ set in olden times.
(contains some book stuff)
