This might sound silly, but I figured I'd check with the math gurus. How exactly do MDB and -% magic damage equipment/traits interact?
My understanding is this, please correct me if I'm wrong. The "cap" is -50% reduction. Shell accounts for about half of this so you try and make up for the last half from gear. Beyond that, you go for MDB gear in remaining slots to further reduce damage taken.
Say I have -18% and +16 MDB (on RDM so add another 12), assume -25% from shell. If my math is right, I'll take ~45% of normal magic damage.
100-18-25 = 57
57 / 1.28 = 44.5
Does MDB allow you to, in a sence, "break" the 50% damage reduction cap or is this setup overkill?
