    Your Area's Local Food

    What food defines your town (or city, area, etc.)?? Local favorites? Your personal fav? What food DEFINES your area?

    I live in south Jersey, and although people think of philadelphia, there's about 5 counties that have nothing to do with it. I live in a rural southern tip of NJ where cheesetakes have nothing to do with anything. Seafood is our thing, being the shore.

    You'd think it was Ohio out here. Farms, woods and the shore. Beaches everywhere.

    And naturally, our 2 local food favorites are;

    I own a 19' boat simply for 'em. I catch them right behind my house and fuck maryland - only true local jersey hicks know how to make em. Nothing like being hungry, walking outback, throwing your line over (10ft from your backdoor) and bringing in a dozen good size males in an hour while enjoying a cold six pack. Hence why I'll never leave NJ.

    and another fav;
    the original tarintini panzarotti

    It's not a calzone, it's an inside out Pizza, deep fried. A pocket of pizza dough, stuffed with sauce and cheese, deep fried. Trust me. It's like an orgasm in your tastebuds.

    God that sounds good, especially since you said Vinegar based - I love pork, and vinegar. Sounds like win, win.

    Buffalo Wings, Beef on Weck, a hundred other local sandwhiches. Omg we have thousands of local pizzerias(highest per capita in the US, pizza chains get chased outta town fast).

    Loganberry and Grapefruit Soda.

    WNY has probably the highest average quality of local food in the nation, it's honestly the only reason I can never move away permanently.

    I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting tons...there's aton of food in WNY that I think of as common but never realize it's rare until I leave the area.

    Norelco back me up on WNY!

    We all have the local bars and pubs we love the wings at, but I gotta say, I tried the wings at a bar that everyone told me was the best (but how many times have you heard that), and it was fucking a.m.a.z.i.n.g.

    I think because they didnt use any breading. Just fried em right, not TOO much sauce, not too bland. Perfect. And they left the wing intact, with the mini-elbow-type-thing still there. Perfect.

    There's a restaurant just 2 mins from my place that has the best fries. Mcdonalds I think.

    There's no such thing in LA. My favourites are: Mexican and Thai in that order. Worst I've tried is Chinese = garbage.

    Thai is delicious.

    I wish I could remember what dish I had, it was something "hed". Red meat, sorta spicey.

    I'm sure i'm not the only one living in a town ruled by this.

    Spoilered cause I "censored" it but it's still kind of gross.

    Friday Night Fish Fries are pretty big around here, there are a bunch of small dining halls that are sometimes only open on friday nights.
    Also, apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze.

    apple pie and cheese? why??

    it amazes me that outside the NYC area people haven't had good jewish/jewish-style deli.

    A slightly warm fresh sliced corned beef on rye with deli mustard (or with some chopped liver if you're feeling adventurous), with a knish or some kishke & gravy. Honestly, I could eat kishke/derma 3 times a day, and I don't even know what goes into it lol. I prefer half-sour pickles but that's just me.

    Pastrami or brisket in lieu of corned beef is alright too. I never really understood people's fascination with tongue, but then again I don't eat gefilte fish come passover time so I guess I'm weird.

    For bagelry (bagel snobbery aside) you can't get better than a shmear of cream cheese and some nova lox, or some smoked sable. Whitefish salad is good too!

    I don't think I can bring myself to marry a man who doesn't know his deli.

    edit: I suppose a very northern NJ type deli sandwich would be the jewish "sloppy joe", consisting of corned beef, turkey, cole slaw and russian dressing. Been a long time since I've had one :Q___

    Apparently not a lot of people outside NJ like malomars and pistachio ice cream, either.

    That's because you're from North Jersey, Atreides. You need a south Jersey Hick to show you all the delicious things we catch with a net, pole or trap in our backyards.

    edit: for non-jersians - north (NY) and South (philly....if you must associate) Jersey are two COMPLETELY different states. North is busy, packed, and like NY. South is rural, country, farmlands and beach towns.
