You need to check yourself on that and watch it again. He was in a depression when he made this and it gets much better later on. You don't find out about the dark history till about EP 47 or 48 and when they show it it's great.

    wow thats fucking hilarious....

Any one know of any other decent mecha animes? I tried Gunbarrel which was I would say interesting way of seeing how a shonen boy would take being in control of a 50ft robot. Just recently finished Gigantic Formula, which was kind of lame. Of course Full Metal Panic! is great =)

I liked seed, I watched destiny just to see shinn get his ass kicked, hateddd that fucker
00 was good, I enjoyed that, but seed was my favorite, liked it a lot better than wing (probably because wing was so overplayed on toonami at the time)

Been said repeatedly: UC Era, then get into the silly shows, G Gundam (THIS HAND OF MINE...), Wing (admittedly it had some neat stuff, but it is still far from a serious gundam show, more like a mediocre anime that had Gundams stuck in it), then watch 00 without getting too emo about it... and I've yet to see SEED or Destiny, and I doubt I'm missing anything.

Thread inspired me to look up mecha's from the shows, I have to say SEED had some pretty cool suits and the side stories had awesome ones.

You could watch Gurren Lagen, don't know anyone who isn't a fan of that.
There's also Big-O which I enjoyed even though it isn't all that popular.

It's transformer meets voltron, what's not to love?

It's probably THE Super Robot series in an era before Gurren Lagann, though I'm not gonna suggest watching either series consecutive of each other, since too much awesome will dillute the overall experience of whichever series you ended up watching second.
