Anime/Gaming fans living in NY (or online shoppers)

I was in a japanese clothing store in NYC this weekend, called Uniqlo.

They have all sorts of t-shirt designs "inspired" by anime and video games.

Tons of neat shirts that have Gundam, Casshern, Tekken, Pac-man, Space Invaders, Detective Conan, Speed Racer, all kinds of different stuff.

And when I say cool, I actually mean it. They're not the cheap screen print anime/video game shirts they sell at Hot Topic for 20 bucks.

I picked up 4 of them and it only cost me $45, so check it out.

The store is located in SoHo Broadway. Their stuff is pretty expensive but they have sooo many T-Shirts... Their layout stocks T-shirts up to the ceiling and you have to get one of the people working there to climb ladders if you want something from up top. Three floors (iirc) of stuff. They have some plain clothes/work clothes there as well, and when it's on sale it's pretty nice.

Amy Odell of NY Mag reports that Uniqlo owner Tadashi Yanai might buy the Gap:

Yanai is trying to turn Fast Retailing into the biggest clothing manufacturer and retailer in the world. The easiest way for him to do this by targeting the U.S. market is not to open a million new Uniqlo stores — that would be too much of a pain. So he plans to take a shortcut and simply buy a large chain. Insiders speculate that Gap is that chain.

I read on a reciept that you can send orders to [email protected] or something like that, but I can't remember the address.

I'm going to call the store and ask how to do orders over the internet, because I really liked the store.

And I didn't think they were too expensive, $40 for a pair of jeans is great in my opinion.

Oh, and when I was there they had a whole batch of MGS4 t shirts you could buy, because the creater (forgot his name) was there signing the shirts....

It's my understanding that UniQlo is basically a Japanese Gap. They used to sell lots of no-graphic quality t-shirts (nice cotton, good fit, etc.)

They started a web campaign a few years ago trying to break out into English speaking markets, offering free shipping to places outside of Japan. My friend told me they were going to be absolutely huge because they have a good business ethos, and sell really good products.

Might check them out, I don't think there are any stores in the UK yet, but I know they definately do shipping...
