Mechin’ Good: Mechwarrior Details Approach
Blue has noticed that there have been some rumblings from Pirhana Games about their new Mechwarrior game. An announcement announcement! There’s already a bit of information on their site, including this: “Gamers will pilot a deadly BattleMech and use information warfare to dominate a dynamic-destructive urban battlefield. The game features include classic and new mechs from the BattleTech universe with persistent character development and plans for a single player campaign, as well as, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay.” You apparently play “a wayward nobleman” who ends up with a motive for revenge when his family are killed during a planetary invasion.
Worringly the site also runs with the headline “Not Your Father’s MechWarrior” which makes me sad because I am my own father. That said, the CG teaser which we first posted a couple of years ago (below) does look promising, and seems to get the plodding weapon-blastiness that is Mechwarrior.
MECHWARRRRIRORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O FUCK YES MECHWARRIOR!!!!
MechWarrior 3 was one of my favorite PC games, ever
I played 2 and 3 religiously.
2 Mercs was the greatest ever.

WANT!
I've been checking in at mektek.net like once a month for the past couple years waiting for more info on this.
Edit: To add to the discussion, the fact that they're running with a title like "Not your father's Mechwarrior" is disturbing to me on many, many levels. The move away from classic Battletech to engage a larger playerbase is exactly what drove so many hardcore fans of Mechwarrior away from the franchise when MechAshit 1 and 2 were released. The only real fan support left for the series is extremely old fashioned, and has been making it known to the Developers at Pirahna Games on a regular basis that they want a realistic vehicular simulator game rather than another shmup.
The most worrying thing about that trailer, for me, has always been the %-based HP indicator on the HUD. That shit was beyond retarded in MA, and I'm not looking forward to any resurgence of arcade-style crap. At the very least, it did seem like the 'Mechs were taking limb damage in response to shots, which is good.
One of the Developers over at Pirahna has been regularly updating his blog with the occasional general question about what the fans would prefer in a Mechwarrior game, so it's been "Alive" for a while, however I believe the biggest hurdle for the team has been finding a Producer. Has there been any information released about this? The people over at Pirhana Games have definitely given the impression that they care a lot about the franchise and making the game to end all Mechwarrior games, but there's only so much they can do without funding.
Double: Sue me. A ton of hype is being built up by Brian and Russ over Twitter. There is talk of a working pre-Alpha prototype for MW 3015, as well as an iOS version of MechCommander (Code named Mechwarrior: Tactical Command).
New Twitter for 3015: http://twitter.com/#!/InnerSphereNews
They're releasing tidbits of what appears to be cover art for every 100 twitter followers they get. Current assembled "pieces" thus far:

Looks like a Victor in the foreground with the Pirhana Games logo in the background.
ARE YOU PSYCHED?! I'M PSYCHED!
Edit: Random info that's been gleaned from the various developer tweets,
-The game starts in 3015, but seems to progress through the Clan Invasion! Brian has confirmed that he "Will be playing a Summoner when those show up".
-The HUD on the trailer was a mockup, so there's no need to worry about HP%-based Armor systems (herp Mechassault).
-There aren't any legal troubles with Harmony Gold, though the Unseen 'Mechs are once again Unseen. Reseen designs have not been confirmed. Poor Warhammer
Oh christ, Clan Invasion! MORE MADCAT/TIMBERWOLVES! Gimmie gimmie GIMMIE!!!!!!
TW's used to be my favorite mech D; So Iconic. I broke the game once with a Kodiak with 18 (C) Medium Pulse lasers and enough heat syncs that I could hold them down indefinitely. I could rip through 100Ton mechs in less than 2 seconds. Shit was so broke it's not even funny.
As long as the physics are somewhat like MW4, I'm more than sold. I loved the feel of LBX autocannon in that game. Ugh... so hyped!
I'll cum buckets if the add the computer voice and autopilot features back in.
Wow, what bastards.

New MechWarrior game a PC-exclusive
A few weeks ago we saw signs of life from Piranha Games’ Mechwarrior project, following two years of radio silence. Since then, the Inner Sphere News Twitter account has been teasing images of Mechs, logos, and a possible release date.
Right now, we can tell you that the next Mechwarrior game will be PC-exclusive. We have an Overlord-class Dropship’s worth of information on its way, along with one very big surprise, so check back in two hours when we can tell you more.
