I've turned my eyes to the BG community to help me since googling didn't help me!
This is mainly towards anyone with previous experience of delinquent payments that have gone to debt collectors.
Backstory: I received some CDs from BMG music back in 2002 and BMG turned it over to a debt collector Dec 1, 2008. I received absolutely no letters or phone calls b/c the address they had burned to the ground, lol.
So now I have this icky bad mark on my credit score and it dropped my score by almost 80 points from my last credit check. This is bad in that I now only have a score of 640/820 (compared to my previous 720~) and I'm afraid my upcoming conquest of buying a house may get blasted to hell for having a much lower score and a bad mark on my score.
My question: How long will this stay on my history? Everywhere I look says 'up to' seven years. This seems awfully long for a 220$ debt. (Yes, all this for 220$ on about 6 CDs from 7 years ago!)
And if this DOES stay on my credit report for seven years, will my score at least go up some when it shows it's been paid?
