I dont know...Im just afraid is gonna be totally shitty and corny...mostly corny
So far from what I heard the biggest concern is that there is an overuse of CGI. From what I've seen I'm worried about that too. Even in the above clip I'm right away aware he's in front of the green screen and something doesn't click.
Listen you don't fuck with Ragnar.. He's gonna kick some ass.
The orcs in the clips I posted were very well done with cgi. Some events were changed to better fit the film, but nothing to really complain about.
They still have a year to make it better. What gives me hope is how amazing the sculptures are.
What the fuck do people expect? Of course there's gonna be a ton of CGI and green screen.
Please tell me how these areas would look anyway authentic without CGI. This isn't Middle Earth with an occasional tower or Gondor CGI'd in the middle of vast New Zealand. This is fucking fantasy-filled Azeroth and Draenor. As for locations, concept art was shown of Draenor, Dalaran, Stormwind and Ironforge.
The orcs, costumes, and weapons look pretty legit. I'm definitely in.
Looks very very campy, like if Super Mario Bros. had a great cgi budget.
When the fuck have Blizzard titles NOT been campy? D:
The point about CGI people are making is the comparison between original LoTR and Star Wars trilogy vs the new ones. People disliked the Hobbit battles because instead of using practical effects and costumes they used tons of CGI. Same this with Star Wars. It may look good but takes you out of the experience because it's not realistic. People who watched the trailer are saying it feels like a game cutscene and not a movie.
I think the term you're looking for is "uncanny valley".
this is a good video on why too much CGI sucks
thats not a good video
On mobile so idk if this will post right, but http://spectrum.ieee.org/image/1555672
I for one have absolutely no problem with a 1.5hr long 'game cut scene' that blends people+props+costumes with CGI... I mean, is that not what we were expecting here?
And frankly, so long as the CGI is done well I don't care how much they use. That's the bigger concern, if anything.
"Man I really wanted to like that Avatar movie but it was terrible, too much CGI"... said like no one ever? Maybe some hipster critiques? CGI is perfectly fine where it's justified (fantasy worlds) and done well, even if it's 90% of the movie.
The problem isn't cgi, it's cgi that takes out of the immersion. Kind of like why Jurassic Parks dinosaurs looked more realistic then Jurassic World's dinosaurs. Both are great movies, but how "fake" cgi can look is a legitimate complaint, even in a "video game" movie.
Trailer friday.
ok, thats not looking half bad
