He does seem to be awfully big now to fight at WW. I am actually thinking about moving up to LHW myself. Maybe even higher...I am sitting at 220 lbs right now and feel great. My kidneys are just so tired of the weight cuts (wrestled since I was 5), I think I am faster and stronger at this weight than when I cut to 170/185. I really am not going to sit and box you, so my reach shouldn't be a huge factor. I really wish they had a Cruiserweight class, lots of the tweener guys would do well there.

So on the list of things I didn't expect to read today is..

"Nick Diaz signs to fight Fernando Vargas in boxing match, considering retiring from MMA"

    http://www.mmamania.com/2011/4/14/21...ring#storyjump

Nick Diaz: "They don't have anybody else for me to fight now. I'm better than all these guys they have. The guys they have ranked above me, I'm sure they don't want to fight me. So, I don't know, I don't see much of a future in this sport for me, I honestly don't. Especially if there's not a whole shitload of money going on. I'm signed into some contract that I don't know anything about. I don't know anything about that shit, I got a manager. All I know is that my life's a living hell, full of training, grueling exercise, training everyday, cater to everybody else and not worry about myself sort of thing."

Cesar Gracie: "We're looking at a big name. We're looking at some guys that (have) name recognition. Maybe not the top guy in the world necessarily but someone that the public knows. I'd love Vargas to get in there with him, Fernando Vargas. It is (realistic), I know they've contacted him and he's very interested. We've actually signed on the dotted line for that fight ourselves, and we're waiting for him now. It's on already, we've already signed for it. We're looking at September, October for something like that and we're just waiting for their camp now. (It's official) right now. Ha. (Nick's next fight is going to be in the ring as a boxer), right."

    http://mmafrenzy.com/18174/fedor-eme...keforce-event/

A matchup between Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson and former top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko is in the works to headline a July Strikeforce event that will likely mark the promotion’s debut on pay-per-view.

Strikeforce’s Scott Coker confirmed the plans after Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley” event, but said details remain to be worked out, including what weight the fight would take place at.

Emelianenko (31-3) has faced calls to drop to light heavyweight following back-to-back losses and reportedly wants to fight Henderson at a catchweight, possibly as a test for a move to 205-pounds, but Henderson (27-8) is said to be okay with moving up to heavyweight for the bout despite fighting as a middleweight as recently as last year.

The July Strikeforce fight card is also rumored to include former light heavyweight champ Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Roger Gracie, but does not yet have a set date or location.
    Hey I know that guy!

Seriously, this could be potentially very exciting. Both are among my favorite fighters and to see them go head to head...

Yeah Fedor and Hendo is a good match up. Legend fights almost always end up awesome.

Also, Nick vs Vargas is weird as hell.

Last I heard they don't want cross-promotion fights between SF and UFC still right? They don't have anyone in SF to fight Nick Diaz. They don't have anyone to fight Melendez. Nick may as well fight a boxing match until they just take the cream from SF and throw them in the UFC banner.

Nick had just recently signed a new contract too so I don't know how he plans to get out of that. It probably allows him to fight elsewhere with permission but he would probably have to still finish out his fights with strikeforce.

Nick Diaz is such an overrated plug. Just because he can beat guys in the top 30 doesn't mean he'll do well in the UFC. Who's the best name he's beaten? Daley? lol

Slow down champ. He has been on a really good run since the 3 horrible fights in the UFC where he was decisioned to death. He beat Neer, Tibau, Gomi, Noons x 2, Shamrock, Smith, Zaromski, Sakurai, and Evangelista Santos as well as Daley. I am not the biggest fan of the kid, but he has outclassed most of the people he's been put in the cage with, and that's about all you can do.

Whether or not he has beat the best, he's incredibly entertaining in the cage and that's why people want to see him fight. People need to get past 'hurr durr I watch only top10 fighters' and instead watch them for the entertainment once and a while.

    What a novel idea.

I hate him as a person in and out of the cage, he thinks he's fucking thug life, so sooooooorry if I don't show any respect for a fighter that really doesn't deserve any.

@Nobel, the only three names on that list I will give him credit for is Gomi, Sakurai, and Daley. He only beat Noons once, if I recall correctly, since he was cut in their first. People are quick to point out that Overeem hasn't beaten anyone of quality, yet rank Diaz top 10. Even Gomi and Sakurai were on their out when he beat them. This is the thing I hate most about MMA; when a fighter fights outside the UFC dominates, it's like people put on their blinders are wowed by mediocre fighters.

I will guarantee I will get bashed for this, but Diaz and his camp fail to show respect time and time again, so as a fan I have absolutely no obligation to show him any.

As long as you're beating everyone put in front of you, there's not much else you can do. Rankings are for idiots anyway.

Yeah sure, I understand there's very little he can do with the opposition that he can face being in Strikeforce, but in saying that he's leaving MMA because there's nobody else? Ridiculous.

As for rankings, yeah, it can be over the top with who goes where, but it's useful in the sense that it is a broad indication of compete/success level for the sport.

Because you are not a fan does not change his ability or entertainment factor as a fighter. I think Kanye West is an arrogant douchebag asshole but I still think he has some good music... you need to learn to separate the two, you're arguing two different things right now.

edit; to end this debate, i will call him a good, exciting fighter, who obviously knows his shit. i was wrong to call him overrated/mediocre, but he's still a plug in my books
