OMG YOU ARE RIGHT!

Yeah, you guys couldn't tell that was the old beard elf at first glance?
They all look awesome :3 the Elvaan male picture is my current characters face and he looks like angry sex on legs. I also like the new Tarus, was never a fan of the massive heads >_>
As for the BLM picture, interesting that his face is black. Would be very cool if playing the BLM class darkened your face as a nod to the old style Black Mages
New taru is probably at an odd perspective. Will probably look more fitting ingame. I am very impressed personally so far. Really sounding like a new game entirely rather than ff11 2.0
Can a mod gather the translations in the OP? This thread is hurting my brain
EDIT: Use it

I've been opposed to the look and feel of Taru from the beginning of FFXI. So this changes nothing for me. You people have always been a twisted and nightmarish creation ill-suited for living. Feast your eyes on the unsightly horror of your true appearance in the light of realistic modeling. Mwahaha!
Actually, it looks like all the races have been imbued with a more realistic humanoid look and feel. They've faded out some of the dog/cat/chipmunk aspects of Galka/Mithra/Taru (tail, fur, nose). It seems to suit Galka quite well who look a tight and cleaned up. Although perhaps less so for Mithra and Taru who look like animal/human hybrids gone slightly awry.
There can be only one.

Yes default hon <3 , my husband chose that model so I am predisposed to liking the snobby-look-down-on-everyone-get-off-my-lawn elvaan face.
And look at this lol:

No experience, levelling in FFXIV News // MMO /// Eurogamer - Games Reviews, News and More
So it looks like Armor determines the main class (Warrior, Sorcerer, Gatherer, Crafter) and your weapon determines your sub class.Komoto hinted at the way character advancement might work when he discussed the game's job system. Considered a strength of Square Enix's last MMO, FFXI - which allows players to combine character classes, and expand them with sub-jobs - it will return, but in a new form based around the weapons and equipment players choose to use.
"We believe the main factor behind Final Fantasy XI's lasting appeal is the job system," said Komoto. "However, the system will become something completely different. The focus here will be on weapons. Your weapon will determine how you play. Your weapon will determine how you fight.
"We want to afford players enough variety to choose a different way to play on any given day. If they could practice one skill one day, they could work on another one the next," he added. This seems to suggest a skill-based advancement system, similar to Ultima Online's.
thats my character model in ffxi(except with black hair) so i'm quite pleased
i always assumed the females in ffxi wear chest supressors(sp?) since they are flat when they wear heavier armor, but have a little bit of a chest when they wear stuff like doublets. either that or they are trying to keep the poly count low >_>
