Bumrushing Bard to 75: Tips?

So as a 75 dancer one can imagine I don't get many merit party invites. In fact nearly all of my handful of merits are from campaign battles, with a couple merits begrudgingly given to me from the rare party that cant find a bard or red mage.

I know my job is useful, but the merits just aren't coming nearly fast enough. So I've decided to begin my trek to my next 75 job, and what job isn't better for getting merits than bard?

So here I am, battling rabbits with my little dagger in ronfaure when I suddenly realize that I don't know a thing about this damn job. I don't even know what job I should get to 37 to sub to it? ninja? White mage? Dancer? Dark knight? @_@

So I come to you BG for advice, how do I pull at later levels? What are must have pieces of gear I should get my hands on asap? What songs should I use in what situations? What do I avoid doing to prevent looking like a complete retard?

And for the love of god what is my sub? (I was thinking dancer for a lot of chr+ if the party doesnt need me /whm? Or cor for a roll to go with my songs? I dunno!)

One last statement, I am in the mid 80s of WW and climbing, so I can synth my own HQ instruments, which to my understanding is a very valuable asset to a bard correct?

Sub WHM in the early levels if you're in a party, then later when pulling switch to NIN though there may be times when you will need to use WHM then too.

Pull with elegy. Other spells cause you to pause for a couple seconds after casting. Hell just outright refuse to pull if you want. No one is gonna tell you otherwise.

Show up naked except for a weapon and instruments. You can seriously get away with this.

Bards are a dime a dozen at 75. Suck it up, cap Haste Samba, and go merit.

Anyway, for BRD its pretty simple, Like Laughably Simple, Put up your flag and do the basic stuff... Pulling really does grab a spot over other bards who might not want to pull though.

Also, Fields of Valor between invites if it wasn't obvious, Level Dagger or something and Wack away =)

Thank you for all the help, never realized it was such a simple job, always looked like a much more complicated task, keeping up 4-5 different songs at once while pulling.

On another topic, how do I know what songs to use to maximize dot for all members, IE minuet vs march vs othersongs etc?

Is there any system to figure it out or more of a just eyeball it kind of idea?

I know as dancer to determine which samba to keep up I look at magic melees vs straight physical melees to determine if I wanted to use haste samba, aspir samba, or a variation of the two, along with which steps to focus on and stack and etc.

If you really want a good merit job where you don't have to do much leveling do COR imo. Also I didn't do march when I was leveling sticked to mad/minuet until meripo.

If you got cash,

step one screw brd

step 2 - get an Mkris

step 3 - lvl Cor, Brd is so meh, Cor is a blast.
Sure its alittle more costly~ but you will thank us in the end!


If you really want to lvl brd its easy, Mages / ballad Melee / acc/att

blm mosly endgame, i would say pull cause brd does get boring, hate being the non pulling brd in Meritpo i fall asleep or melee lol

Maybe I'll level both O.o;

Atm though I do have bard geared up and cor not even unlocked yet (well 2/3 done the quest) so I'll take bard to the 30s or so and see how I like it, then take cor for a spin as well then go from there with whichever job I prefer methinks.
