Ok, so it goes like this. I used to get a mean case of swimmer's ear in my left ear back in the days of my highschool swimming class. About a weekish ago, I got some water into my left ear and had the familiar pains/aches. I figured it would just go away in a day or two like it usually does, but the pain has been on and off for a little over a week w/ the added bonus of my ear's volume has been turned down to about 10-20%. I can barely hear at all out of my left ear and it hasn't worn off yet so its freakin me out rly. I don't have insurance and can't really afford to go see a doctor, so wanted to see if anyone here has any experience here or has seen anything like this before.

Have used regular ear drops and swimmer's ear ear drops both w/ no luck.

Wasn't even from swimming really. Just had a long day got back off an 8hr+ plane flight so I decided to take a bath rather than a shower on the said particular day. Haven't gotten anything directly into the ear since that day. Showers and such but yea nothing compared to your head going under water.

There are usually free health clinics around that can check you out.

In all honesty you probably just popped your eardrum. It happens often on long flights.

Easiest way to tell is to plug your nose and blow (not hard). If you hear a squeaking sound out of either ear, then you've popped it and the only thing you can do is wait or go see a doctor.

I still suggest seeing a doctor. You may have a serious infection.

Do. Not. Use. Q-Tips. They're terrible for your ear. Because they're circular, they push the wax back into your ear, compounding the problem.

You'll want to go to the drugstore and buy debrox: Debrox Solution Facts and Comparisons at Drugs.com

Follow the directions on that site, and then let warm water from the shower flow into your ear to clean it out. That should remove any excess wax, and it's what doctors will use for wax build-up when you go in to see them.

Man it up and pay cash for that shit. Don't fuck around when it comes to an ear infection because you WILL end up with hearing loss, possibly vertigo, and who the hell knows what else.

If you want to try anything for a home remedy, make it 3% hydrogen peroxide. 3-4 drops from an eye dropper should be enough to clean out any excess wax, plus it feels pretty awesome when peroxide reacts with wax.

And for fuck's sake NEVER stick q-tips, or anything, into your ear beyond the outside part. Whoever suggested that shit needs to be flogged.
