ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 - Worth the Buy?

I didn't realize AVG wasn't top of the line until I recently read this topic:
    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/81164...ml#post3046722

From that thread it sounds like Nod32 is top notch for anti-virus security. I did some additional reading on their website and some personal reviews across the web mostly all raving reviews. I did a bit of hunting on demonoid hoping for a cracked/full version but it looks like its a pain in the ass to continually crack for some reason. That raises the question $40 a year isn't much, breaking it down it's $3 a month. Is Nod32 worth $40 per year over the other free software options? While I don't mind paying the $40, what would piss me off is I buy this then in a week discover some other software that's even better.

So I guess the questions comes down to these:

    1. Is this the top of the line software for the home user? Also, I use and am very happy with Comodo Firewall so I will just be purchasing the anti-virus, no need for the full Smart Security

    2. If I purchase 1 license, can I also install the software on my laptop and fiancees computer? Or do each need their own license?

Thank you for your read & time.

I would say no to this to just about everyone unless you were in a position to get more or be more susceptible to viruses than the average user. Between Firefox and the typical list of security-extensions chances are you won't even pick anything like this up, virus, spyware or otherwise anyway. For consumer purposes I've never found a need that the free alternatives haven't met personally, which are listed in the Freeware thread.

To specifically answer questions, 1: Probably the top, but considering the difference between ESET and free alts is like a few percentage difference in detection ratings, it seems excessive. I believe a strong point of ESET is length of scans, but Avira is pretty satisfactory for me in that dept.

2: Each install would need a separate license key, unfortunately. D:

I say a definite yes. Both NOD and kaspersky are considered the best AV on the market for a reason. One they offer top notch protection. Your paying for a reason, they support there shit and protect well. Two they update frequently... and I mean frequently. Kaspersky updates every single hour. Three they use almost no resources at all. My kaspersky uses less system resources than steam does, less than explorer.exe, less than my g15 keyboard. Its seriously small and doesn't effect my pc's performance in the slightest.

The only time I even notice it running is when it detects a threat.

Of course most viruses are caused between the chair and keyboard, but malicious files are sneaky. It can happen to the best of us. For a minimal investment you get a lot of peace of mind.

disclaimer: having a good AV doesn't mean you can surf 100% worry free running IE on pr0n and gilfarming sites; continue to use firefox, noscript, adblock, etc.

I use ESET Nod32 AV, and have been for a few years now and it is by far the best AV around when it comes to not being a resource hog and keeping my system clean. That being said, why would you buy software? PM me if you want.

I used NOD32 for awhile and recently purchased ESET Smart Security, which is NOD32+some extra stuff. I've been in love with the software ever since I first used it. It does an amazing job of keeping itself updated & running with low impact to yout system. I would definitely say it's worth a buy. I <3 it.

I also use NOD32, and I don't regret buying it legally in the least.

And this comes from someone who does his level best not to buy anything (especially Windows utilities) if at all possible.

$40 a year is a coffee a month, and given how good the software is, I wouldn't mind buying the devs a coffee a month.

Thanks for the replies. Just as to not leave people hanging I uninstalled AV and am currently testing out NOD32. As for other security it has definitely not made me lax, I still use comodo firewall, threatfire, Kprofessional keystroke encryption, winpatrol and of course FF/noscript/adblock/flashblock and don't allow scripts on any ffxi based page even if it means I can't check spoilers.

I think it's worth the buy based on the heuristics and the resource footprint alone. It literally uses no resources. Most AV software gobbles up other companies to fill deficiencies but Nod32 has always done the right thing and rewritten their software instead of making a quilt.

Idk about knyghtmare or anyone else chiming in, but aside form the free trial, I heard really bad things about pirated versions. Most are cut up to never look for updates, which makes em relatively useless, others use keygens that don't work after a while. If anything, that's a good thing, shows that the AV software is able to see inconsistencies, even in its own body.

NOD Smart Security (their all in one solution) is completely worth the money, so is the anti-virus software.

I agree. I have beein using ESET Smart Security (includes NOD32 AV) for a few years and I love it so much. It is extremely lightweight and won't hog your system resources at all. With ESET, Firefox, and NoScript and AdBlock-Plus, I haven't experienced any sort of infection to date.

Hi, new here from Australia and my question is why should we not go for quilt or quilt covers?
