I've been reflecting on a similar topic lately. Something like 3% of mammals have one partner for life, and it's likely the human is not a part of that percentage, right?

Without proof, I would say that number is far too low.

Most mammals at the upper tiers of the food chain have one mate in their lives. Pack animals like wolves generally DON'T ever mate in their life. As only the alpha pair and maybe the beta pair in rare cases ever actually fuck.

Also animals that have a lifespan of 1-3 years, like most small mammals will fuck a few others as most before getting hit by a car/eatten/etc.

Most primates stick to one partner for life.

Just food for thought.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the primates that happen to have a similar sex drive to ours, use sex as a form of social adhesive, and it is often used regardless of the sex of the other.
