Nature has always been a source of inspiration for designers to look at things differently.

We all know that a tree doesn’t always have green leaves, water is not blue and clouds are certainly not always white and puffy. As designers, we need to know to look beyond the obvious when looking at things.

Cloud formations such as mammatus or lenticular among others, are perfect examples of how intricate and different nature can be. There are even so called ‘ufo clouds’, which truly resemble the shape of a UFO.

In this post, we take a look at some amazing photographs of the weirdest cloud formations that you’ll ever see, that are destined to inspire your design work and surely blow your mind.

Woke up to this today and thought I'd share. Could've (lmao I spelled this originally Cloud've) added to the science thread but I saw it more as "God's Art". Some of them I've seen/heard of before some of them are new to me, but they're still as shocking to see as when I was growing up in school.

I've already seen a few of those but they do not cease to amaze me. Would be interesting to actually see them in the sky and not just on photos.

pretty cool. I've seen some of them before, and was familiar with most (but not all) of the cloud types shown. which made me realize that I was either more into clouds than I thought, or have spent way too much time browsing wikipedia.

mammatus clouds are some of the weirdest-looking, although I love a good shelf cloud. you never see shit like that around here, the best we get are the green hail clouds.

Needed a wide-angle lens to really capture it, but that shows some of the oddities. It was in the low-80s/high-70s and about an hour later it hailed. Our waitress was freaking out.
