Books, Books?, Books!, Books...What are YOU reading? aka the WoT, GoT, Orson Scott Card thread

I'm bored at work. I need some new books to read until my copy of Jim Butcher's Princep's Fury comes in the mail. I just recently finished a ghost story called the Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff. Was decent, nothing spectacular. I started reading Patient Zero by Johnathan Maberry. I'm digging it quite a bit. It's a newer zombie book about a black ops government group that is trying to stop terrorists who have been able to weaponize a virus that turns people into zombies.

Very fast paced and a bit of a pleasant surprise. Hit me.

    It's really good so far.

Actually rereading all of Alera to prep for Princep's. No idea what to read after that, so I'll be watching the thread with interest.

The first book was awesome, the part about the coon who named her kid Shithead was classic.

Gang Leader for a Day, was written by the grad student who gave them the research for the chapter "Why drug dealers live with their mom", entertaining and really shows why poor people in the US will always be poor and never get out of the ghetto.

The problem with Princeps is that I can find the hardback everywhere but paperback isn't out until December(my mother is a librarian so I call her to order books using their discount.) And I don't particularly feel like shelling out twenty five bones for the hardback.

The Lost Symbol's plot resolves itself around that point

    Just finished:

    http://scienceblogs.com/omnibrain/up...kcoverrant.jpg

Great book, I love the way it describes itself as an autobiography from a history that was modified by time travelers, basically. "This entire book may just wind up on some fiction shelf somewhere...", very neat book, but visceral as well.

Dying to read because I didn't know they existed til just the other day:

Reading when I'm not poring over math or physics textbooks of various sorts:

And whatever other random Palladium book in my collection pops into mind.

We The Living by Ayn Rand. I see a lot of things said about her, both positive and negative, and never really looked her up or anything to see what the fuss was about, so decided to pick up her first book. Apparently the source of her controversial "popularity" is due to Objectivism though, which this book doesn't really cover at all, but I wanted to start with her first book to see if I could appreciate her writing style.

Been planning on switching back between Ayn Rand (assuming I enjoy her writing, which so far I have) and Chuck Pahlaniuk books, but I really don't go through books very fast. Might break that mold though, Patient Zero that Brill's reading sounds pretty interesting.

    Well

World War Z (again love this book)

The complete Civil War history (2000 page book on the Civil War and all things leading up to and after it). A very good resource to have.
