I just finished reading 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell'. It is such a finely crafted novel that I was unable to start another book for a few weeks when I finished. It's an amazing book and very good.

Also, Rant is now my favorite Palahniuk, but I think things don't look promising for Chuck as his last two, Snuff and Pygmy, were both not very entertaining. Snuff might've worked as a short story but not as a novel. Pygmy was ok, but after some of the stuff I've read in other Palahniuk books, it wasn't really all that crazy or clever.

Gonna drop a HUGE list later, was considering starting this when I saw there was no "books" thread anywher, but for now

Most recent read: Pratchett's "Thief of Time" (re-read)
Most recent new read: Cory Doctorow's "Makers" (you can get a free, LEGIT, copy of any of his books at his website)

Up next: Fuck, I dunno. Got Iain Banks' Culture and David Weber's Honor Harrington series read half through, but Jacqeline Carey has a new book out I want to read. There is even more stuff on the long backlog.

I'm pretty much making my way through everything in order - with small detours for arcs I like better than others (I'm not actually much of a fan of the Watch ones to be honest - prefer the Unseen University ones, and Death is of course number 1). I live with someone who has his bookcase arranged in meticulous order so it's easy enough to start at one end and read to the other end.

Totally fucked over a girl I used to work with when she reckoned she had us all stumped with her pet trivia question about what was the name of Death's horse and two of us got it right straight away.

Chick lit book is NOT getting any better btw. It's not even trashy escapism bad - it's urge to murder brutally bad.

Just do yourself a favor Kuno. Do not read any of the other Dune novels. You'll be reading until the end of time. And maybe one out of every ten are good(that comes from my wife, she's read them all I gave up after two other ones.)

I read the 2 others that are part of the dune trilogy. Neither of them are very long and the 3rd one was pretty good, 2nd one was ok but it seemed like it was just setting things up.

Best read of the last few months :-

John Meaney - "Bone Song" & followup "Dark Blood"

    also been reading :-

    Dan Abnett -Eisenhorn Omnibus
Joe Abercrombie - The First Law: The Blade Itself: Book One
Before They Are Hanged: Book Two
Last Argument Of Kings: Book Three

Had started Triumff: Her Majesty's Hero by Dan Abnett, but Bleach 27 & 28 arrived the next day, so just reading them now. I tend to only read when I'm on my lunch break, or travelling on public transport.

I think the 6 Frank wrote are definitely worth reading, but not the 7895789289 other ones that his son and Anderson wrote. Those are shit.

Almost finished "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell about Operation Redwing. Like it very much, but it's a sad book.

Going to read Salem's Lot after since I've always put it off.

Brill, I went to order First Lord's on amazon today and it was only $9.99, so if you can get past the mixing hardcover and paperback thing, it's a reasonable price and you don't have to wait a month.

    Just a heads-up in case you hadn't price-checked yourself.
