Pretty much this^
I found it the opposite. I just couldn't get into Dune with Frank's style, but the Brian and Kevin novels were pretty good.
It depends on your preferences, I think. If you liked the originals, I could see how the prequels etc would seem shitty by comparison. But I just could not get into them with that writing style. It's like reading the Bible.
so was looking up some stuff about dresden and came across this
and a quote from last year saying he hoped to finish it by the end of the year, so we might see it this year?“At the moment the series is ‘The Cinder Spires,'” Butcher said. “It's set in a kind of quasi-Victorian, steampunky world where civilization all exists in these enormous spires that are spread out considerably over their world, with lots of airship traffic between them. It's kind of a steampunky, Hornblower kind of thing. So we've got ship captains and duels and ship-to-ship battles and the opening of hostilities between two empires, and there's steam-powered technology and we've got this crazy crystal technology and goggles and airships and other tropes that are my favorites from the steampunk genre.
“I love to play with that stuff and try to use them in ways people aren't used to, and it's been a really rewarding book for me to write. I've had a lot of fun writing it.”
He should stop writing other books and finish Dresden Files! The books are too short to be anything but an annual release!

Q: Hey Jim, what are the odds of us getting both your Steampunk novel and Skin Game this year?
A: Difficult to say, it depends on how productive the next couple of months are for me. Call it 50/50.
Just finished The Chathrand Voyages quartet. Really pretty great; one of the better series I've read in a few months. Would put it above the Riyria Revelations. Ending was pretty frustrating, but still pretty good.
lol
you doubting? you just need to open your eyes to the real world, son.
About 75% through a Wiseman's fear.
Gotta say this series is nothing like I thought it would be so far. Real original
It's essentially a soap opera with demons and magic and some harry Potter elements. I'm really digging it.
Since this is somewhat relevant to books, and I assume many people, myself included may never check the ff11 sections, I'll just drop this link here...
