I recently read through a few of Michio Kaku's books. I don't have a big background in deep science but he makes the subject matter relatable. Also, reread A Song of Ice and Fire series. Still loving it.
The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson. It's a novella, only 176 pages, but it's like the best of everything Sanderson stuffed into it! Great characters, interesting world, some action, intrigue etc!
Finished Book 4 of Dresden Files. Should be able to finish 5 and 6, maybe even 7 before A Memory of Light comes out.
On a binge now that I have a Nook. Finished Book 9 of WoT (again..) and trying to catch up to Sanderson's last three. My PC is going to be neglected for quite some time.
Got seven Jules Verne novels lined up afterward - hopefully my classes nor these readings clash with each other...
Ordered the Prince of Nothing trilogy, and this is what I got.

Just finished the first 2 Kingkiller Chronicles books and im pissed I didnt wait until all 3 where out before I started. I have a very bad feeling after the conclusion comes out, im going to be left wanting more.
Anyone have some recommendations for a new fantasy series to start? I've read most of the ones that have been listed in this thread and im running out of ideas. Recently have finished Wheel of time re-read, jim butcher books, Mazalan books, and game of thrones re-read(just to give an idea of the types I like). Started Black Company from recommendations here and made it 1/2 through the 5th before I got bored and stopped reading(short, choppy writing style made my brain hurt lol).
Thanks in advance for any replys
Highly highly suggest anything by Brandon Sanderson, which I'm sure you may have picked up if you have been reading this thread. Check out his latest, "Way of Kings" which is the beginning of a new series, but the second one isn't out quite yet
Not sure if you are willing to delve into the Science Fiction genre, so I can't really offer any other recommendations that you haven't already picked up on.
Yeah, Sanderson's Mistborn series is pretty good. Though also not typical fantasy.
Ya no wizards and shit. Sorry. Just people drinking metals into their belly-furnaces.
Any more fantasyfaire like GRRMs work?
Ive read everything by him and Tolkien and now I'm bored
Not that I can think of, but if you're willing to work through something on an even grander scale but more fantastical (and simultaneously both more hilarious and more depressing), try Steven Erikson's Malazan series (think Black Company x50 if you've read it). I think this keeps coming up and being rec'd... lol.
re: last page and more generally.
Dave Duncan - he was one of my favorite authors for a long time. King's Blade series, some of them were great. Love The Gilded Chain. The Seventh Sword trilogy is really really good adventure fantasy too. His stuff lately is just making me throw up my hands and stop reading him, though. Most of his older books are fun, both scifi and fantasy. Dude wrote a lot of books.
Jim Butcher - I finally got my hands on Ghost Story! Was fun... missed Harry. Looking forward to getting the new one soon. I feel bad about how he plugs his fantasy series at the end of every book, and my response every time is ehhh, not really interested!
I also finally got around to reading Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn... it was good, very pretty kinda story. What mostly impressed me was realizing how faithful the film version actually was... almost all of the dialogue in it had been lifted directly from the book.
I don't really know what to get into now. I'm sort of picking away at Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space Chronicles based on bf's recommendation but it hasn't clicked yet.
I do enjoy Sanderson's work, but gonna hold off on way of kings till a few more are out. I try to avoid starting an incomplete series if I can, because I have too many books that im waiting for already.
I do like some sci-fi, though dont have alot. pretty much just the Enders books right now.
Gonna check out Kings Blade, 3 recommendations in a page cant be wrong lol. Would you say all of them worth the read or just first 3?
First two are worth it 100%. I personally have mixed feelings about the third, but you'll want to read it once you've done the other two, for reasons that become obvious at that point. There are a bunch of spinoff ones, but I still really liked Paragon Lost and the rest will probably depend on how in love with the setting / writing you are at that point.
Yeah read the Malazan stuff, pretty much my top series at the moment. Don't skip the stuff by Ian Cameron Esslemont either, he's one of Erikson's friends who designed the world with him and has some awesome stuff that ties in with the story.
Finished off Ender's Game. I'm thinking I may start up the Shadow series instead of going on to Speaker For the Dead. From what I can gather from the synopses it seems like the Shadow series is a lot closer to the feel of Ender's Game.
I liked Xenocide, although it took a while to get into it. Although now that I think about it, I can't come up with any details, I just remember liking it. Th fourth book, whose title I had to look up, was completely forgettable. IMHO: Ender's Game > Speaker for the Dead > Shadow series > Xenocide > Children of the Mind. I didn't even know Ender's Exile existed until I just looked up the series. The comic books have been decent, but not spectacular.
