Not saying I didn't know it was possible, just saying logically you shouldn't be able to do that.

Just like logically you shouldn't be able to augment a piece of gear and get only minus stats.

I was trying what I assumed to be Niiro's logic of "Why should high level gear get such shit augments?" and it was responded with "Well my Penance Robe...." Penance Robe is not high level, which was the point I was trying to say.
