Okay so i have no excuse to use the sauna then, darn. Guess i'll just have to use it when i do plyometrics.

And as for stretching, what do you guys think about it? I've heard very mixed opinions on its use for avoiding muscle injury to helping deal with muscle soreness. The general idea i'm getting is that stretching is good for promoting flexibity and perhaps helping aleviate a sore muscle after working out, but it offers few if no benefits as a before excercise routine.

rich asked for more pics, here we go (shitty camera, i know):

    before
    Spoiler: show

february 2011, 64kg, around 25% bf. sadly no sidepicture because this one doesn't do my then fatty tummy justice

    now
    Spoiler: show

    58kg, 15% ish bf.

i'm very pleased with my whole upper upper body progress. still needs to loose some fat around lower abs section + sidebumpers. week 6 into sl 5x5 now and squats/dls are near my limit, so that should work for getting real abs. the only disappointment are my arms but then again, they've grown noticable since starting 5x5. have to blame my 7 months before of wasting time on arms and not doing anything for my legs.

Basically, dynamic stretching before you lift, static stretching after you lift. Don't do static stretching before you lift or it'll hurt your lifts.

Aevis, that's some serious progress. Good work keep it up. Make sure your forms are correct for your lifts, look a bit uneven (or might just be genetics).

  6. #8226

dynamic before, can mix in static if you're doing a mixed warp up; i always do double unders and some hamstring/hip flexor/shoulder stretches. 30 double unders, stretch some, repeat a few times. I go straight into my warm up workout from there which is usually bodyweight/gymnastic exercises and some running. Can also do static/yoga stretches during your lifts to promote flexibility, you usually do this during extended heavy sessions.

@mazmaz yeah, noticed that on the pic too. dunno if it was because of pumping for pic or w/e, but it's hardly noticable in rl.

Just found out my knee "pop" while playing basketball is an ACL tear. Here's to hoping yours isn't as bad!

At 28 years old, I feel like there's no reason to not get reconstruction surgery. Anyone have any experience?

    Yeah, what Mazmaz said:

Static stretching before extraneous activity has actually been found to make you more likely to cause injury, most often due to the fact it's really easy to stretch improperly. Safest bet is to do it after you exercise, and for best results also try to do small amounts of it throughout the off-days.

I typically still do small amounts of static stretching in between sets still just to keep myself from tightening up too much, but very short and low-pressure (kind of a middle-ground between dynamic and static).

I do and it's not that bad. I had an ACL reconstruction and a very small part of my meniscus sutured back together.

If you plan on playing basketball or doing anything with lateral movement get the surgery. I did the cadaver allograft because my hamstrings are shot, and many people I know had/are having bad experiences with the patellar grafts. After surgery pain was minimal. I sold my vicodin when I went back to college after break.

Honestly the graft type isn't as important as rehabbing as much as you can. I did three months of pre-op rehab to regain full mobility (extension and flex) before surgery and also actually increased the muscle mass/strength of my quads and hamstrings.

Pot-op I was cleared for everything after 6 months (which is pretty fast) but again I rehabbed pretty intensively, two sessions per week at my rehab center, and sets of exercises twice a day. Your orthopaedic surgeon and therapist should say the same thing: rehab is really going to be what determines how well you heal after surgery. There's really no reason at your age that you can't come back 100%. If you have any detailed questions about the process feel free to PM me.

Never felt like posting in my boxers, so I've never really posted leg shots and since I'm wearing shorts in all of my pics, you all see my tiny calves .

Decided to roll up one leg of my shorts, lol and finally post a quad shot.

Yes, I know my leg is white as fuck, no sun etc.

    Spoiler: show

Can't run, lift without pain. Can fully extend and do some air squats with no pain, but bent knee pressure on the balls of my feet hurts. gf needs to get off work finally and fix me

So I remember Chruchill talking about "wheat belly" does that mean I should cut out wheat from my diet? Does eating wheat make it impossible to get amazing abs? If so, is there a substitute I can use because I love making and eating sandwiches.
