I really want to try vibram's for working out and my running. Do you only use the vibrams that are specified for running? I know that many people use them for working out as well, but is there a specific one thats sort of an all around shoe? I was thinking the original, but the store in DC didn't have it, luckily I was able to try a pair on and found my size.

Cutting update: Down to 196.5, but Christ, it feels like I've put on weight in the belly. Amazing how all the body's fat wants to go straight to the gut. So annoying.

I run/workout in them, sometimes I use a shoe made my terraplana, and sometimes I use my penlays.

washing stuff down with water can be pretty good

broke into the 300 club for DL with at 305x5 today, 3 plates next Wed. which will be a 2xBW lift if I manage to not gain 1.5 lbs between then and now which is not something I can guarantee
    also squat PR
also missed reps on OHP PR attempt
    upper body don't work good

maybe a 1000+ gym total might actually be a realistic goal for the end of the year if my bench ever stops being shitty

Took some progress pics for the end of the bulk. Ended up looking good, considering I've been eating like 4-5k calories a day for the past 7 months. D: So I suppose I'll share.

Plateauing in the last month sucked, but meh... Final stats were at ~184lbs, ~15.5% BF, at 5'10".
    Spoiler: show

Apologies for shitty lighting/camera/poses (still don't quite know how to properly 'flex' my back), need to find a better place to do this but don't want to in public lol.

A row of no flexing with a row of flexing.
    http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/922/allyo.jpg

Improvements all around; including my previously near-non-existent chest and back. Shoulders also blew up, strangely enough. Legs are still soccer legs (not pictured).

For comparison, this was about a year and a half ago at 160lbs and 16% BF, before I started training.

So now I'm on to more cutting-oriented routine, as of last week. Cut my strength training by about 1/5th, and added in HIIT for 10-15m every workout (4-5 days a week min). Along with another 1-2 40m cardio sessions that vary between sports, a class, running, or spin (yeah yeah, it's effective).

Cut diet back to about 2-2.3k calories or so too, for a smaller deficit than I had the last time I cut. Hoping I don't lose much muscle this round.

Aiming to get down to about 8-10%, and decide from there if I want to put on a bit more muscle or just maintain.

I don't think I want to be very much bigger than I am now, but I'd still like a bit of a bigger chest.

you've got a great frame Derek, and your progress is astounding. how are your legs coming along? have you formed any separation from your quads and glutes and have any teardrops poking out? and how are your back workouts coming along? your back looks incredibly thick (which is awesome) but it isn't too wide on the top, which is ok. some people don't like the cobra look, lol. but it gives you the illusion of a smaller waist and makes you pop out a lot more. your back is already great, but if you did more wide pull motions like bent over rows, t bar rows, wide lat pulldowns, or various pull-ups, it'll help spread out that thickness and make your back wide, which would in time equal a bigger chest, lol. (and bigger biceps too!)

your frame is similar to mine. our shoulders are completely dominant for almost every upper body movement we do. if you're like me, you most likely have an easier time doing incline benches than you do with flats. you can counter this by limiting your rom to chest movements (powerlifting style, which is perfectly safe despite how some people make it look) and increasing your strength on your rear delts and back since its a huge foundation for your overall mass layout and your legs are actually the biggest factor on the testosterone released for overall growth. even people with large legs still need to squat for a faster growth in their weak spots lol. (or they have a lot of time on their hands like the folks in jail with tiny legs and big arms lol). but my chest is still weak i managed to get it to grow, ironically when i didnt focus on it as much and did more legs and back workouts lol.

either way, you're awesome. everyone here is awesome, and you all are kicking some major ass

RK that change in a year and a half is pretty sick.

I spent like 2 weeks eating exclusively Pizza and McDonalds and haven't gained any weight. Either my metabolism is the shit now or I am doing something wrong. Anyway, back to working out took a 3 week break after Insanity. Starting Asylum now and jump rope exercises are tricky or I'm hella uncoordinated.

Thanks all for feedback & compliments, encouraging.

Thanks, and yeah my legs have always been pretty good just from soccer... though I mostly tunnel-visioned for progress on the rest of my body in strength training. Quick pic:

A big part to me starting strength training was because I was so disproportionate, with big'ol legs and a tiny upper body. D:

My back improved a lot, and yeah I've mostly been focusing on wider-grip exercises as well, which is where I think most of the thickness came from.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how big I want to be, tough to decide. I really enjoy the routines and gains now. Thanks for the advice.

Hm, yeah... I've noticed my shoulders have been dominating a lot of my upper body movements too. Had no idea why. My overhead press and incline bench are about the same, and both aren't too far behind my flat bench (which certainly doesn't seem common at all?). I'll try out the advice to counter that, thanks. Although I have to admit I like having bigger shoulders.

But yeah, now that the upper body has come along well next round I'm definitely planning to focus more on squats.

And hey, you're even more awesome man! The transformation you've made is unmatched to anyone I know.

oh man, i forgot you played soccer! your legs are more detailed than mine, haha. that is pretty sick man, keep it up! and i love having big shoulders too lol. usually your inclines are trailing a bit off from flats, but for me, its about equal lol. my shoulders grow way faster than my chest does which was why i suggested it and wow, thanks man. you know it all started from me and this thread lol. so i gotta give thanks back to you all for sure. either way, keep it up man! and when you start cutting, make sure you DL this:

abs are made more in the kitchen than they are in the gym, and this breaks it down to a complete science for you. you can add your multi/omega 3'as and other in here as well to help you push back from your maximum intake of your calorie deficiency since your STR will drop significantly when you start cutting

What's your OHP like if your incline beats out your flat?

Yep, this thread has helped a great deal with info/routines/tips/motivation/inspiration and such, kudos and thanks are well-deserved across the board to everyone here!

Thanks for the link too Rich, that will definitely be helpful.

I'm actually not 100% certain, I never tracked the numbers very well or tried for PRs. I mostly just focused on remembering how many discs I'd load up on the bar for various exercises.

I definitely don't know my (or have tried for) max weights. But I can estimate the weights for some of my basic routines quick, something like this (gogo excel):

Ashamed to admit I haven't done much in the way of deadlifts/squats either recently D:... Hoping to put more focus on them in the next session of bulking.

Back from Vegas and my karate competitions. First time power lifting today in close to a month. Had to scale it back because I knew I lost some strength since I was training for speed and endurance for three weeks before I left. Squatting 135 felt so fucking heavy lol. Barely got my 315 2x55 up. My bench was pathetic and could only do 185 2x3, and I was only able to DL 350 1x3. Please kill me now. These next three weeks of heavys are going to BLOW.

In other news, I got a present in the mail!
