Looks like those that bought it just for the addons just wasted $20 if it's the same as the Vana Collection 2008. Nice if we had a warning SE.

Well, the Steam version is safe to buy now that it gives you a key to use. I have a buddy who lacks the third addon, I'll see if I can get it to work with his account.

I'll post once I know more, but don't buy it expecting to upgrade quite yet. ; ;

Nah this isn't true... I bought Vana'diel Collection 08 just to get WotG. when i came back from my 2year break. It should still give a existing member access to the 3 mini expansions.

Yeah, if it's anything like the previous packs, inserting the collection-key into an existing account should work and give access to the expansions it doesn't have access to already.

At any rate, not sure why all the love for Steam here regarding the distribution. All it takes is a torrent of the FFXI:UC disc and you're good to go also without needing a damn CD/DVD to install the whole thing.

It's strange it has to update, I would assume they would use the latest version update, especially from an online retailer.

Cool story bro if the collectors edition will let you get the addons for free. I know one of my friends would be happy about that.

All in all, Steam launch looks awesome. Hope 14 uses Steam as well.

The Ultimate Bundle is supposed to include all 3 mini-expansions. I wouldn't mind picking it up for 360 to just have one disc for everything, but it's going to suck if I can't use it on an existing account.

It'll be a moot point if Gamestop etc never gets it in. They think it may arrive tomorrow.

My buddy popped on and I gave him my Steam key. He lacked ASA.

Key worked like a charm and he got the add-on, so that one key is indeed compatible with older accounts.

Now as soon as Steam gets the overlay working, I'll be a happy taru.

Next up is Windower and DAT mods.

DAT mods are go! Tested with FFXI Sytle (New version up btw)

Default path for FFXI on Steam is:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi

You will find your ROM folders there.

Not going to play with Windower until the overlay is working.

Edit: Found another bug. The opening movie does not play regardless of the FFXI config.

Is it not available to EU players off Steam? I don't see an option to purchase it.
EDIT: Nvm, I see the Steam news specifically mentioning US and Canada.

If I use the Steam key on my existing account to get the 3 addons, can I still make a new content ID to use the 30 day free period?

The code is one use only. You can use it EITHER for making a new account with everything, OR adding missing expansions to an existing account. You can't do both with that one code. They said this when they first moved to the new code system, in the FAQs on the site, with the 2008 Collection.

It's noted on the windower site that it doesn't work with Steam. I didn't see any indication there will be a fix for that any time soon if ever.

I wish I had investigated this a little better before I bought, uninstalled normal copy and then installed this. If I can't use my windower macros I probably won't play anymore.

Is it possible to hard code macros into the .dat files to use more than six lines?

Um, actually windower works fine for me with the steam install.
I have vista 64 if that matters.

Slightly off-topic, but my local EB Games (basically Gamestop's name in Canada) went from a whole wall of PC games to a few racks in the middle of the store. Even the PSP section was bigger.

Slightly on-topic, I wonder if FF14 is going to be released on Steam or if that'll come later.

i concur, they seem to not like pc games at all. the PC section in winnipeg/stvital mall was barely divisible by the amount of other game sections there were, it was like a hidden section next to the counter. pretty soon itll be the chest in the middle of the room where they sell older games. which I generally go to microplay for.
