Last night, I completed ASA and chose the Desultor Tassets and augmented them with Waltz TP cost -5 and Conserve TP for my DNC. I thought I would report the results of a bit of testing.
First of all: The waltz TP down augment does not allow you to use a waltz if you do not have sufficient TP to use it. The cost reduction applies after you waltz, i.e.:
-- No Foot Rise for 3 Finishing Moves = 48 TP with full Reverse Flourish merits.
-- I was not able to use Curing Waltz III, which costs 50 TP.
-- When I got 50 TP, I used Curing Waltz III and it cost me 45 TP.
As for Conserve TP, I ran out to Vunkerl Inlet [S] as DNC/SAM and poked some crabs. I built TP to 300% (mostly because I fail at immediate mental arithmetic) and used Curing Waltz IV. For those that don't know: Curing Waltz IV costs 65 TP normally. With the waltz TP augment, it costs 60 TP when used.
Basically, after using CW4 at 300% 127 times, I did not see any reduction in TP. Not even once. However, before I actually started counting my waltzes, I did see one reduced Curing Waltz III for 38 TP. Make of that what you will.
I'm not really surprised. I think it does work like Conserve MP, but it will make absolutely zero difference over time. I think I might redo the fight and replace it with something else. >>; The Waltz TP down, despite not working in the way I initially imagined it would, seems pretty good -- especially when you get into the swing of things.
