I had a discussion with two friends about this word and it left me a bit confused on its exact definition. I am a bit of a grammar nazi when it comes to using words correctly so I wanted to seek a proper answer.
The word came from the novel "Lolita" which was the name given to the 11 year old schoolgirl by an older man.
Upon looking the word up for a definition on dictionary.com showed:
n. A seductive adolescent girl.
For a while I had thought the definition was a very young looking adolescent girl with some prepubescient characteristics. I didn't realize that this had meant they were sexually seeking as well (unless I am reading the use of "seductive" wrong and it meant seductive looking)
A friend stated it was the opposite of pedophilia where the said "kid" was seeking the older person in a sexual sense. However, I had always figured it was similar to ephebophilia (even though this was more of a mid-late adolescent).
Looking up adolescent brought me this:
n. A young person who has undergone puberty but who has not reached full maturity; a teenager.
Then I look up prepubescent:
1. of or pertaining to the years immediately preceding puberty, prepubertal.
This was where I got lost. The bandwagon and media has been labeling lolita fetish as pedophilia which includes prepubescent ages as well if I remember correctly. Ephebophilia covers mid to late adolescent and pedophilia is before adolescent. I don't recall a word for early adolescence.
Just curious for any clarification on this word in all seriousness.
