I don't use timestamp either, it's makes my chat log look all weird. Even if I'm trying to get a ToD while afk, logger has a built in timestamp.

Line of thinking probably went something like "what if someone has a friend start a trial account and wants to talk to them privately?".

What with their spaghetti code, it was probably too much of a hassle to rate-limit tells, which wouldn't eliminate, but would certainly reduce the magnitude of the problem.
