    Windows Mobile question (HTC Touch Pro related)

    Basically I'm curious if it's possible to force a tether connection via WinMo even if the network claims not to support it. My carrier will be Sprint and I'll be using a HTC Touch Pro 2. Is it possible with that combination? I ask since I've seen people with jailbroken iPhones use AT&T's network for tethering anyway (without any support)

    The tutorial below should be able to help you out (found it on a different forum but unfortunately I can't post a link due to having less than 10 posts)

    1. Install Total Commander

    2. From Total Commander go to:
    a.\\Plugins
    b.now go to registry
    c.now go to HKLM

    2. Edit the following regestry entries:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
    Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll" entry

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
    ForceCellConnection="Sprint"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
    MaxCMCon=0
    (this is a new entry, DWORD, Name the entry MaxCMCon, and then it will ask for a value, put in 0 for that vaule(should be there by default))

    2. Start the Internet Sharing application.
    3. Hit Connect In the Internet Sharing application.
    4. Connect the Diamond to the Laptop/PC via USB
    5. Done. No other applications needs to run on the PC/Laptop.

    One of the best sites I've been to as far as resources for my Fuze is "xda-developers" which if you google it, it'll bring up a forum for most smart phones. Look for "Raphael" which is the codeword for all Touch Pro's. The forum has user made programs that might interest you that are quite useful.

    There's a handful of HTC TP/2 forums out there, they may have better info to walk you through it specifically...it may require custom firmware though, not sure.

    Most networks don't support it, unless you pay for some insane package (usually extra $30+/month).

    Your phone will still support it, and will work with no problems with the correct guide. However, if your carrier detects your using too much data they can either suspend your servcice or just start charging you for the tethering package. So don't go overboard with it, and use it as your primary internet connection.

    Yea, it's possible. You just have to have unlimited data unless you want to get a lot of charges on your bill.

    I did it with my HTC. You have to go into the settings and start up some other program that starts it as a modem before your computer (laptop) will recognize it.

    Tell ya what though... a 3G connection on a 2.0 USB port was faster than my wireless G connection.
