IVAN REITMAN RETURNS TO BUST MORE GHOSTS IN 'GHOSTBUSTERS 3'!

The original GHOSTBUSTERS director returns to direct the third installment - bustin' must really make you feel good
      LOCATION: The abandoned firehouse

THE SKINNY: GHOSTBUSTERS I & II director Ivan Reitman has confirmed with MTV News that he'll be returning to the helm for the much talked about GHOSTBUSTERS III.

While there's been prior speculation about Reitman's involvement, this is the first confirmation of his commitment to the sequel.

Reitman says that screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky have submitted their first draft of the script, and that they're currently hard at work on the second draft.

"Good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed... There's some very cool things in the new draft," said Reitman.

He offered no comment on Sigourney Weaver's spoilerish remarks regarding Bill Murray's character Peter Venkman.

GHOSTBUSTER III is scheduled to begin filming in summer of 2010 for a 2011 release.

In a recent interview promoting his upcoming movie Year One, director and Egon Spengler Harold Ramis confirmed that a third Ghostbusters film is, indeed, in the works and that the original crew—Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson—will return to mentor a new batch of baby busters. This, of course, has set the Internet ablaze with rumor and speculation, to which we will happily chuck a hefty can of unresearched, totally made up gasoline of our own. Check out our ideas for Ghostbusters 3: The New Batch.

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-1.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 1
Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen, and Craig Robinson

Also Known As: The Apatow Gang
The initial rumors around GB3 claimed that Judd Apatow was going to be producing, which means the shortlist for casting quickly shortened even further. Apatow only uses about five different people in his movies, so this casting call is basically a no-brainer.
And, scene! In one sequence, Rogen mistakenly unleashes his positron collider on a cloud of bong smoke. Meanwhile, Mintz-Plasse's character discovers he's the illegitimate son of Louis Tully and Janine Melnitz.

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-2.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 2
Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, and Kumar Pallana

Also Known As: Bill Murray Calls in a favor to Wes Anderson
Murray's comedy career has gone in a much different direction since his Peter Venkman days—he's no longer the sarcastic cad, he's now the quietly sarcastic moper. Maybe his influence will steer Ramis to take a more quirky stab at ghost busting.
And, scene! The trio trap a ghost in a high school gymnasium, but fail to capture it when the ghost sits down and explains to them that he's not actually dead, just really, really bored. They all share a knowing sigh to the strains of obscure '60s rock.

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-3.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 3
Bill Hader, Will Forte, Andy Samberg

Also Known as: The SNL Bump
The original Ghostbusters movie was meant to star Aykroyd, John Belushi, Eddie Murphy, and John Candy. Perhaps hoping to recapture the powerful potential of that SNL (and SCTV, the Canadian SNL) line-up, Ramis may well dip back into the Not Ready For Prime Time Players.
And, scene! Forte becomes possessed with the residual spirit of Zuul, requiring him to speak in funny voices and make funny faces. This goes on for most of the movie's running time. But, hey, Will Ferrell cameo!

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-4.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 4
Zach Braff, Michael Cera, and John Krasinski

Also Known as: The Emo Ghostbusters
Ramis may very well buckle under the strain of studio pressure and be forced to "skew younger," which means the new crop of busters will mumble, shuffle their feet, and generally annoy Murray into phoning in another Garfield movie so he can continue to live in semi-seclusion.
And, scene! Cera stumbles on the ghost of an ex-girlfriend, leading to a painfully awkward interchange that ends when Cera is convinced to crawl inside the ghost trap himself. Krasinski looks at the camera an average of four times a scene.

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-5.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 5
Greg Giraldo, Louis CK, and Jim Gaffigan

Also Known as: The Stand-Up Crew
Rather than plunge into the shallow waters of established movie comedy actors, the Ghostbusters producers decides to give some stand-up comics a break. Unfortunately, none of them can act, so the movie is forced to create scenarios in which the guys can just rehash their stand-up routines.
And, scene! …which means a final reel showdown against Demonic Hot Pockets, Porn stars, and Louis CK's wife.

    http://cdn2.maxim.com/maxim/files/20...ers-Team-6.jpg
    POTENTIAL TEAM 6
Maya Rudolph, Kristin Wiig, and Amy Poehler,

    Also Known as: The Girlbusters
Perhaps Ramis will take a cue from the long-rumored (but nixed) Lost Boys sequel Lost Girls (or maybe Hostel II) and just redo the first movie but with a female cast. Watching Poehler and Rudolph struggle under the wait of proton packs would be funny enough, and as far as we're concerned Wiig should be in everything, always. And, hey! Tina Fey cameo!
And, scene! Hilarity ensues when the girls all discover they are dating the same guy: Dana Barrett's now grown-up son, Oscar. Making matters worse is that he's a huge commitment phobe and he's still marginally possessed by the spirit of Vigo the Butch.

I kept hearing Dan has a hard on for Eliza Dushku and she needs work desperately so she has to be in...

    Plot:
Dushku as new secretary (could also be in training by Annie Potts as a new hire)
Bill, Dan, Harold and Ernie own the company.
but Harold just invents the technology and is losing his health from too many fights/fuckin with science.
Ernie became the companies lawyer to fight the lawsuits they face from the city full time.
Bill and Dan (and Danny McBride as one of their brother-in-laws) are old and tired and decide to hire young peeps who need college credits/want a fun job.

    New Team
    Donald Glover
    Michael Cera
    Jessie Eisenberg
    Ellen Page

Thats what I think would be a reasonable plot/cast. It would also finally put a rest to the Jessie and Michael confusion and Danny McBride making fun of them for being pussies would be hilarious.

Fun fact: I loved Ghostbusters so much when I was young, when my sister was born they asked me what should we name her. I said Jeanine(name of the secretary) and they agreed.

There's still hope for Murray to be in it.

Scaring up spirited seniors for ‘Ghostbusters 3’
Who you gonna call for “Ghostbusters 3”? Try Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

Dan Aykroyd says he and the other aging spirit snuffers will be on hand for the third installment of the franchise.

“It picks up in present day,” says the “Yogi Bear” star. “No ghosts are left because we took care of them and stored them all. We took all the ghosts out of the hotels and the streets. But then an event happens and something comes through from the next dimension.”

Young turk actors will be along for the ride. “We’re passing it on to a younger generation,” Aykroyd says. “The original Ghostbusters are older now. Our eyesight is fading. Our knees are going. We can’t shoulder those big packs on our back anymore.”

Progress is being made. “We have a script now,” says Aykroyd, one of the writers. “We’ve got the pieces on the floor, and now we have to bolt them together and put on wheels.”

Though Bill Murray said last summer that a disappointing draft “vaporized” his interest, Aykroyd said he’s confident that “once the script is finalized everyone will be on board.”

The future of Ghostbusters 3 looks shaky, with Dan Aykroyd telling The Telegraph that Bill Murray has said a difinitve “No!” to appearing in the belated sequel.

“At this point it’s in suspended animation,” says Aykroyd of the film’s status. “The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn’t want to be involved. He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it. I know we’d have a lot of fun [but] I can’t be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know.”

Aykroyd had previously said that one Murray’s rolecould be recast, but he adds that they are “not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio.”
