Entered SSN wrong (one number) on credit card... does it matter?

This is a pretty big fail, but I've had this credit card for about six months now and I JUST found out that one number was off on my SSN when I applied for the card. I was trying to set up an account on the new version of their rewards site and the last four of my social kept showing up as "incorrect"... tried one number different and it worked.

So, my question is, how much does this affect if I let it go? Does this mean this card isn't affecting my credit at all, since credit reports will be using my actual SSN?

I think you're talking about Mihiro Taniguchi. The girl in my avatar is Shiina Ringo, a famous Japanese jazz/rock singer and lead singer of Tokyo Jihen.

I know how to correct it <_< I just want to know what the potential consequences are of leaving it as it is.

Isn't that identity theft? Making purchases under another persons name, even though you're paying it off the person could probably come after you if they found out, especially now that you're doing it consciously

I would assume that falls under identity theft even if you didn't know. They may be lenient if they catch up with you on this but most of the time in the "fine print" when you sign up for a credit card, you agree by law that its your information and that you have verified it. By agreeing to that, you basically take all the blame if something like this comes up.

On the flip side... one could argue that its the CC Company's fault for not actually checking the Name against the SSN.

In this case, it is the card companies fault for not verifying further. Pretty sure it would hold up on their end in court though since when you apply for the card, you agree all the information you are giving is 100% accurate.

The fact that they let it go with the wrong SSN tied to a difference name/birthdate means the credit card company is at fault in my eyes. Max the mother fucker then cut it up, have everything delivered to your next door neighbor. They'll never find you! BUWHAAHHAHAA

it's actually your responsibility to correct data and can still be held liable for anything you do with that account.
