UI is awful
It really is. Game looks awesome though, thought that gameplay would be disappointing because hurr durr sit behind cover but SUDDENLY, ROBOT PUNCHING.
the punching made me think of an extreme version of rock'em sock'em robots, I think if I were to play this game, I would have to much fun in the cover system, by making the character crouch frantically then sprint to ever enemy in the game and just start beating on them to death.

On smoking
Sam can be made to smoke a cigarette during combat. You can make him smoke up to three cigarettes per stage. The cigarettes do have an effect on the game, as enemy robots will react to the flame when you toss the cigarette and will come at you in attack.
"When actually playing the game, I don't think you'll have time to smoke a cigarette," said Mikami.
With missile spam everywhere I don't think you'll be able to take a break.
Game is like a 3D bullet hell vertical shooter.

Sega shared a final release date of October 21 for Vanquish today. The Xbox 360 an PS3 multiplatform shooter from Platinum Games and Shinji Mikami will be priced ¥7,980.Joining the date announcement, Sega shared some of its promotional plans for the game.
Those who pre-order will get a download code for the Vanquish Limited Weapon Pack. This pack includes three weapons: Boost Machine Gun, Laser Canon and Anti Armor Pistol. So, um.... does that include the US?Confirming that Vanquish will have paid download content in the future, Sega also said that these three items will be released as paid download content following release. The company did not provide price and release timing.
Also it has been confirmed that PS3 is the main platform for the game. It won't be another PS3-Bayonetta, at least.

“We’re leading development on PS3,” said Mikami. “Obviously each console has its own unique requirements and limitations, but we feel if we can create a good enough presentation on PS3, we’ll be off to a good start.”
He also revealed that development started out on PC, although when asked if it was coming to that platform, Mikami said PS3 and 360 were “the main idea right now”.

Vanquish is following in the stiletto-heel footsteps of Platinum's last action game, Bayonetta, in a couple of interesting ways. First, the Shinji Mikami-designed shooter is being outfitted with an optional "Casual Auto" difficulty level, much like Bayonetta's "Easy Automatic" mode, designed to allow even those new to action games have a good time.
"Once you get your target on the enemy, the rest is easy as pie," Mikami said in the blog post announcing the mode. "I'm sure saying it that way makes it sound totally uninteresting, but when you actually give it a shot, the tempo it gives the game play will make you jump up and say, 'Woohoo!'" That's the other way in which Vanquish echoes Bayonetta: exclamations. It's "Woohoo!" from the player, versus "Wuhhh!!" from Bayonetta. "You know ... 'Wuhhh!!'"
Vanquish also includes an unlockable "God Hard" difficulty. "I think our fans will get where this one is going," Mikami teased. We suspect apocalyptic beatdowns are to be found within this mode.
Just the phrase "God Hard" gets me God Hard.
EDIT: Also I really dig joystiqs response to the name lol.
I fucking want this now
Holy fucking shit, that part with the missiles made me wet myself. Now my only worry is whether they still have those ridiculously strict QTEs from Bayonetta.
lol how did I miss this? Yeah, love that sniper rifle move.
The description of Uncharted mixed with Bayonetta looks about right, and sounds like an awesome combination. Fuck yeah.

AwesomeLooking to get your hands on Shinji Mikami and Platinum Games's new PS3 and Xbox 360 action title Vanquish? Your chance will come in just a couple of weeks. Sega is planning to release demo for both platforms on September 2.
Producer Atsushi Inaba revealed plans for the demo on the 21st during an interview session with Gamespot Japan that was conducted at the Akihabara leg of a Vanquish retail demo event.
The demo will be titled "Vanquish Official Demo - Velocity Attack" and will allow players to work through a prologue sequence along with a boss fight against Argos. Players will be able to try out casual and normal difficulty settings, along with the game's auto aim feature (limited just to casual difficulty).
Those planning on attending the Tokyo Game Show starting on the 16th are in for a special treat. Inaba also said that the show's Vanquish demo will be different from the downloadable demo. It will have additional playable areas. He also said to expect a stage that will have an appearance by a surprising character.
Development on Vanquish is already 100% complete, Inaba also revealed to the site. The game is due for release here on October 21.
I like how casual is a difficulty setting now.
