    Sean Hood Rewriting Conan

SuperHeroHype has confirmed that Sean Hood has been hired to rewrite the script for Conan, which starts filming on March 15th. Directed by Marcus Nispel, the action-adventure will be distributed by Lionsgate.

In the film, based on Robert E. Howard's mythical conqueror, Jason Momoa is starring in the title role, while Leo Howard is playing a younger version. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer wrote the original script.

Hood wrote a screenplay with similar themes for the same producers, Joe Gatta and Boaz Davidson at Millennium Films, called Hercules, which is currently looking for a director. The producers will focus on Hercules once Conan is finished.

Hood also worked with Nispel on the script for the sci-fi thriller Subterranean, which may begin shooting later this year.

Mickey Rourke to play Conan's father

Mickey Rourke is in negotiations to play Conan’s father in Lionsgate’s “Conan” movie.

Marcus Nispel is directing the pic, which being produced by Nu Image/Millenium Films and sees Jason Momoa playing the barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.

Shooting is scheduled to start in Bulgaria in March.

The story sees Conan embark on a quest to avenge the slaughter of his people including his father, Corin.

Rourke, who had been tipped off to play the father by website Latino Review in January, was offered the role, but dealmaking fell apart. The two sides came back to the table in the last couple of weeks.

    Bob Sapp Cast in Conan

Latino Review reports that MMA star Bob Sapp will play Ukafa in director Marcus Nispel's Conan, which starts filming in Bulgaria on March 15th. He's joining Jason Momoa, Mickey Rourke and Leo Howard in the Lionsgate fantasy action adventure.

The following is how the character is described:

Ukafa is in his 30s-40, very dark-skinned African or African American, massively framed at six-foot-five, gold-toothed, hardened by a lifetime of war, a leader of Kushite Tribemen from the savannahs of Kush. Ukafa is Khalar Singh’s second in command, jealous that Singh’s son, Fariq, will one day be warlord. He obeys his leader but plots the overthrow of his son. He is a mighty warrior and unbeatable in battle—until he comes face to face with Conan.

An Arnold movie without Arnold doesn't make much of a movie.

I do not know if Momoa has the "presence" to ever fill the role of Conan. They would have probably been a lot better off looking for some unknown that could fill the screen a lot better than some former Baywatch dude.

The overall story of Conan is a good one. Good enough it even spawned an MMO world. I would only hope that they did it up right and not cheesily.

Remakes are ok ... if its been long enough from the first to warrant it. Yet, only if they give the material the reverence it deserves. Battlestar was treated very well in its remake. We can only hope that the other remakes of late 70s/80s pop culture that are on tap for release soon do the same.

Somehow I doubt that anyone can remake Conan into something decent. It'll probably end up being a cross between the crapfest that was GIJoe and that lame Dungeons&Dragons movie they did. But we shouldn't stop the good people from trying. Even if we have to sit through 10 GIJoes to get one Battlestar Galactica.

There are so many Conan stories. Is this really going to be a remake?

the Conan Blog is hinting that so far the way they are casting and pre-production that it's looking like a remake of the original Barbarian film rather than a all new story.

I'd take a good Conan reboot if they don't degenerate the sequels into PG-13 wussfests and kid-fantasy movies.

They can keep the camel-punching in though.

But, dont you like Will Smith trying to force his talentless son into an acting career?

I still dont think this guy is buff enough to be the uber bulked up Conan. Hell Bob Sapp would be more believable in the role. Better him than the Baywatch Bozo.

If you want acting talent, odds are you're not getting enough muscle to equal Ahnold at his best. You'd need a relative unknown, although this was one role the heavy Austrian accent actually made the original better. Maybe another foreign actor from the Slavic/Germanic part of the world, an unknown?
