    Computer/Parts Deals Thread

Like the game/console deals thread I thought it may be useful to have a computer and computer part deals thread. I know there is currently a laptop guide thread that includes deals for laptops; but Feel free to post any deals for computers, hard drives, or anything like that, that is a good deal.

Currently Newegg has the best deal I've seen on a SSD with TRIM support as their shellshocker. (rebate is limited to 1/household) keep this in mind as there is a 3 ssd limit on the website, but a 1 ssd limit on the rebate.

Antec 80mm 92mm 120mm TriCool Case Fans from $2.99 to $9.99 at Frys.com Free Shipping

Make sure you get matching LED fans to match your case, I have a mobo that glows red, so I replaced the fans to be red as well. Looks like a beast when the lights are off. 80mm and 120mm are good case fans, the 92mm is used for heatsinks.

Lowest I've seen is 2.1/gig, but yeah that's pretty low. I'd recommend signing up for neweggs thing and checking slickdeals everyday if hunting for computer parts.

Would you recommend one of these? I have a side panel that could use a fan.

Ah damn they don't have the slim ones there.. I need one for the front intake on my case cuz there's not enough room for normal width.

Only $2.16/gig... pretty much on par for the lowest~ I've seen around. Advantage is this is also a 60gig opposed to a cheap 30. Pretty good reviews from what I've seen. Also supports TRIM of course.

Only issue some people may have is this lacks TRIM. (still <$2/gig)

Can any one recommend a case and motherboard? I would like a mobo that can support sli, at least 4 slots for ram(going to eventually aim for 8gb+), and would still have enough clearing to add at least 2-3 other types of cards into it (was looking at a nice sound card and gaming ethernet card).

Then I am looking for a case to hold this in. I don't need an obscene amount of bays in it, but it need to be able to hold all the above, and enough fans/heatsinks to cool everything inside down to a reasonable level.

Oh, and I'm planning on getting an i5 or i7. That would be pretty important to know lol.

I really want a i7 build under a grand, discounting on the video card (buying something at least 512-1G and saving/waiting until official XIV release to get something more badass)

I really want to try an i7 now. I have an i5 on my laptop and been damn impressed with it. (Lucked out on that too. Was supposed to be an i3, but apparently Gateway had a shortage of i3 so some of the i3 NVs got i5s placed inside instead.)

Are the i7s that much more faster than the i5s? I just got an i5 and don't want to have buyer's remorse =/

i7s are enthusiast procs, if you're not into overclocking and stuff an i5 should be fine>.>

I had a look through the cases to see what's new, but then I found that the HAF 922 is now under 90 bucks. You're not gonna find a better combination of fairly low price and features than that anywhere. Plus free shipping thru the 17th... I might jump on that myself!

For your motherboard, since you want to eventually have at least tri-SLI we'll have to look at the 1366 platform to get the best results. This board from Gigabyte is fairly inexpensive and still gives you all the flexibility you need, plus USB/SATA 3.0 capability.

This is gonna be a tall order. If you're gonna build an i7 machine you really should do it on 1366, and the costs right now for parts is so infalted you're gonna break a grand easy (unless you scale back big time on the video card, which you said is a possibility for now). An i5 or Phenom II x4 will do the job just as well and not cost as much.

In most cases yes - the i7s are all at least native quad-core with hyperthreading and have a higher cache, faster memory controller and higher overclock threshold. The i5s are either native quad-core without HT (which in most cases today is actually a plus since HT causes a performance hit in single thread programs) or dual-core with HT. This is why the i5-750 is really a great CPU to get - it's the one native quad in the i5 lineup right now and because it doesn't have HT it outperforms the i7-860 in a lot of current programs. Combine that with the differences in PCI-E and memory bandwidth from the P55 platform to the X58, and it makes the i7-860 looks extremely overpriced next to both the i5-750 and the i7-930.
