. As reported by Variety, Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney (she plays Elle Argent on the Netflix series) has joined Doctor Who as… Rose Tyler, a character who is already played by Billie Piper, or at least was the last time we saw her when the Doctor checked in on the parallel Earth where she lives now.
In a statement celebrating the announce of Finney’s casting, Davies said, “Life on Doctor Who gets bright and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set.”
Well I'm a little sad, not because this episode was anything to write home about, but because for the first time in ages I just kind of don't care anymore. I'll still follow and see where it all goes, but hot damn this show has been a mess for the past few years.
The other day when I was looking at my upcoming dvr recordings, I was like "Oh, a Doctor Who special" and then immediately wondering how far behind on this show I am. So many times I've meant to catch up, and I just never really have had the care/attention to bother past a couple episodes, and thus it's perpetually re-starting from the beginning.
"they're in the walls"
The first special is out
Who was though.
so...watch them when they come out, or wait until the arc is over?
Did the writing ever improve again on this show? I had to call it quits after the Robin Hood episode and tried it again in season 11 only to be hit with their Rosa Parks episode. My wife kind of wants to watch the special and I am debating how hard to fight it.
It's being run again by Russell T Davies, who did the first 5 years after the reboot.
The writing was indeed awful for the Jodie Whittaker seasons, but this one episode seemed better if incredibly silly
Well that is promising! Holy shit were some of the later episodes terrible. Ok, I will not fight it.
Soo I quite enjoyed the last 2 specials.
Neil Patrick Harris was clearly having the time of his life in this one.
Good write off for David Tennant's doctor, tho these specials overly relied on just pulling shit out of thin air to resolve the plot (this one and Donna/Rose giving up the power in the first special)
I mean honeslty isnt Dr Who all about pulling shit out of the air?
Sure, but those two episodes kinda took it to the extreme.
Outside the context of the plot it all makes sense though, they're treating this as a reboot like the 2005 series was. Donna and Tennant's Doctor get a peaceful retirement. Gatwa's Doctor gets a clean state from all the trauma of the last 18 years to make it a clean jumping in point for the new viewers they're hoping to attract in the US with the show being on Disney+
