I don't know anything about graphics card

So i've recently bought a new computer, and i'd like to upgrade the graphis card. I've had my heart set on this one, that's at the top of the list and it says it costs 74$ on Amazon which is surprising to me because i thought they would be more expensive. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 and i'd like to know if graphics cards have compability issues, because here:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...20++&x=18&y=20

I see a whole list of variations of the same card i want, and i'd like to know what all this means. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a computer expert by any means but these words stand out to me "Fraps/TH-Savefile Tenpenny (1280x1024, 0AA, 0AF, Low Quality, no HDR-R)"

What do you want to use your PC for? Games? Movie ripping/rendering? Graphics Design? Basics?

    http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...a_gt_220&num=1

According to different reviews its a low end card~ "Both of these NVIDIA graphics cards are for low-end desktop systems"

    It says this:
If you are a gamer this graphics card would not be the ideal choice, as you would want something with more power, but if you are looking for a graphics card just for desktop use and/or video playback in an HTPC environment, the GeForce GT 220 is a compelling offer. If you are only a light gamer, the ATI Radeon HD 4670 costs the same as the GeForce GT 220 and from our tests have shown it offers significantly better performance in many areas, but does not support VDPAU.
I don't know if i constitute a light gamer (casual?). I have left4dead and i would like to play ffxiv. What i want to know if this card is good enough for the pc and monitor resolution i have (1280x1024), or if there is something better i can get but within a reasonable price for me (i am willing to pay up to 200k for a graphics card). I am assuming that there is a point up until a stronger graphics card will only have marginal benefit for me if my monitor and pc aren't of higher specs.

    Kuya, here you go.

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...597&CatId=3669

Nice card, has HDMI out so you can hook it up to your flat screen (with audio support)

Will play games nicely, but nothing extreme. It's low power requirement, so chances are the power supply in your computer will suffice.

Also, if you want to nitpick between different cards, I recommend going to www.gpureview.com, they have a handy feature that lets you compare specifications between different cards.

For example, this chart is HQ as opposed to the first one i posted:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...core,1697.html

So taking into account my phenom II x4 810 with a resolution of 1280x1024, would this card

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002UOPRZC/...SIN=B002UOPRZC

Produce a noticeable upgrade or is it sufficiently superior (on my pc and monitor) to:

    http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-P...9199864&sr=8-2

Since i don't know about graphic cards i don't know how much a difference my pc and monitor resolution makes in which card i pick.

Yes, the 5770 will be superior in gaming only. Though, both cards exceed your expectations for resolution.

However, with 5770 you'll want a minimum of a 500 watt power supply.

Your computer has a 300 watt power supply

The best card that comp can handle is a AMD/ATI Radeon 5670 or 4670

If you're not a fan of AMD/ATI get an nVidia GT 240 or GeForce 9600GT

It seems to be a 300W, and the previous poster seems to have answered what i could get with a 300W power supply.

    btw, is Scorch still playing?

    Question, this list:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...core,1697.html

    Seems to place the :

    ATI Radeon HD 4670 CF

    • (2x512 MB)

    over the:

    Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT

    • (1024 MB)

    and below that there is:

    ATI Radeon HD 4670

    • (512 MB)

Were you suggesting the 4670 or the 4670 CF? Also the 4670 CF (75 at amazon) seems to be cheaper than the 9600GT (146 at Staples), so does that mean i should go with the ATI or does the Nvidia one have anyother worth the higher price?

edit: am i also to assume that the ones that have more MB or GB are always best?

I bought one of these it was a great card. I upgraded to a 4850, so I no longer use it.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-842-_-Product

and 4670 CF means crossfire (i.e two cards)

The 9600GT is a good card as well, but now that I have looked further, there aren't many that your power supply can handle. So it's either a GT 240, 4670 or 5670

With this your comp should be able to handle most newer games at mid to low settings, older games like FFXI will run just fine at max settings.

In the link it says its memory is of 1gb, but in this link, the only radeon 4670 that reaches that is the CF. It marks a 4670 that does not say CF but this one says 512 MB, while the one in your link (Which does not say CF) says 1gb. I don't get it.

Sorry for the slight hijack, but how does the GeForce 1/2/3/4xx series compare to 8xxx/9xxx series?

Another question, if i wante to use a stronger graphics card, i would need buy a stronger power supply? How do i know which sort is compatible with my pc? I quickly checked newegg but i did not see things saying they are compatible for things other than i7.

With that said, if i were to buy a new power supply so i can get a stronger graph card; i won't have to buy yet something else so i can buy a power supply for more watts, right?
