Mission54 The bigger they are.. Gigantaur

So, I went into this fight, and I think this is the 1st fight I'm actually going to need help with...
I can't seem to do much damage to him.. I can only attack him for the 1st 1 or so, before I have to SEN/MED/MED just so my party doesnt die.
The real sucky thing is, I can't get any debuffs to land on him. not even with Vanille and her Marborol wand. Provoke doesn't even land most the time. I have to spam it maybe 3 full ATB gauges worth, and then, he keeps me Pain'd until provoke wears off, where he then proceeds to kill off my other members.
I only have 2 30%+ Pain resistance, but it doesnt help much. The speed at which he uses 10k needles makes any percentage resistance pointless, especially when I can't keep Provoke on it.
And apparently, I'm stuck up on this cliff till I beat him, so I cant upgrade or buy anything else.
I'd like to not have to reload a game from a previous save. I have to be doing something wrong or missing something simple, because no other hunts have given me this much trouble.

hmmm.. no debuffing/buffing, just sen/rav/med sen/med/med seems to be working. it's just really slow for how little hp he has, and very messy.
beat him.. 1:52 target time... 13:20 actual time... definitely doing something wrong lol

it took me a few tries to get this too. Basically I did the same as you, put pain resistance on everyone as well as physical resist items, but only like 1 of each per person.

The other 2 accessories I made sure everyone had Random: Instant Stagger and went in with RAV/RAV/COM (but I was maxed on the crystarium so you could probably try with RAV/COM/SEN or RAV/MED/SEN) and I just spammed Army of One until someone proc'd stagger within the first 2-3 rounds of battle, otherwise I just restarted.

I think hope actually died 2 rounds into my fight, but Fang/Lightning finished it off and I got 5 stars. I don't even think it's possible to 5star without instant stagger anyway.

any 2 of the following weapons or accessories:

    Weapons:
    Hauteclaire/Durandal
    Lionheart/Ultimate Weapon
    Rigels/Polaris Specials
    Procyons/Betelgeuse Customs
    Unsetting Sun/Midnight Sun
    Alicanto/Caladrius
    Heavenly Axis/Abraxas
    Taming Pole/Venus Gospel

Accessories (yes 2 accessories work, even 2 of the same):
    Survivalist Catalog
    Hunter's Friend
Energy Sash (I had like 4 of these)
    Speed Sash
    Champion's Badge

Alternatively if you had Fang's Dragoon Lance and Hope's Simurgh (lol Hope Tanking) and 4 Kaiser Knuckles (which you probably dont lol) you can trigger "Ethereal Mantle", which prevents all physical damage, but precludes magical (but not item) healing.

Equip your characters with the instant stagger synthesis and keep retrying with Com x3 till you get it to proc. Fight should end in less than a minute.

You're not stuck on the cliff... there is a mission stone right behind you, just re-accept the mission for that stone and the yellow marker for the Cactuar fight goes away.

The best way to do it from my experience, and get 5 stars, is to use the 2 buff shrouds and have someone capable of casting enfire in your default paradigm. Once everyone has enfire, switch to com x3 and you can chew through him in a matter of seconds. There is a bit of a luck element though, sometimes he'll only attack the character your controlling and give you a quick game over, or hit your entire party with pain and fog.
