14 & 24 are awesome. Different in a good way.
51 reminds me of FFVII, the fanfare you get when you win a Chocobo race.
I think the comment about the 'load of 80's sounds' is true of some tracks.. they are a bit crappier...
Still passing out PMs? Interested.
12 is the best game wise and music number
18.
The best.
OMFG 1D. The soundtrack was pretty mediocre heavy-distortion electronic effects up til then, this totally caught me by surprise. Goosebumps the whole time this has been playing. Wow.
Looking forward to some of the later ones that have been called out as being particularly nice.
Picky as fuck when it comes to music, but I'll admit, some of these are simply astonishing.
Uematsu never fails to deliver.
Did not care for 1D, just not the type of thing I'd associate with an MMO. 2D however, is fucking amazing. I love it.
Even tho, the soundtrack is good, because it is, i found it more nostalgic than anything else, i mean, it's for a MMO and it's definitively Uematsu Scores/Final Fantasy Music, yet only a bunch are really awesome. I guess i got spoiled by FFXIII music?!
A couple really remind me of FFVII for example.. one Edea from VIII (forgot the numbers/tracks now)
EDIT: i havent hearded it all yet, but is getting better
A lot sound very 80's and tacky—in my opinion. Take a listen to 29 and tell me you're not just waiting for Celine Dion to come in. And some definitely give a nod to older FF music, which is nice. However, I still think many tracks all sound similar and forgettable.
There are a few that stick out and I love mostly because they're different and not the typical snare drum / marching band / fanfare sound:
4A - has a lovely fairy-tale sound to it. Anyone know where it's for? I'm hoping somewhere with an enchanted feeling (Gridania?)
2A - there's a nice eerie robotic feel to this. Almost makes me feel uneasy.
34 - very Edward Scissorhands-ish with xylophones, twinkles, and warpy reversed sounds.
24 - the echoing piano intro reminds me of the start of "Sweet Religion" by Imogen Heap so much.
3C - idk. Reminds me of Rabao or something maybe.
I understand it's way too early to make any serious opinions, I'm just a little underwhelmed. I haven't found myself humming or whistling any of the tunes because of their infectious quality like I did with songs from XI (Longfall, etc).
Well, in defense of 1D not sounding "MMO-ish".. it reminds me of a few tracks from FFXI during those epic cutscenes. I'm sure we'll see some of those epic cutscenes where this track is used.
