Regarding Marauder, check this post by Cair, from the other thread:

    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showp...postcount=7027

EDIT - I think it's more likely to see Gladiators with 2handed swords rather than Marauders. Marauder is not an axe class or "brute" class. You "become" a Marauder because you're wielding an axe. Going by the system's rules, if you equipped a greatsword, you'd become something else. This something else is either not in the game yet (Great Sword Class), or Swords and Great Swords are actually the same weapon (Sword), with their differences being something like damage/delay and letting you equip a shield or not. In this second case, you'd turn into a Gladiator by holding one.

Not sure what you meant by this.

That's fine. They always loosely base class implementation on a previously used jobs with certain modifications, but if they were to "loosely" base class progression real life mechanics, wouldn't it make sense that one disciple stems from another?

...a class that uses a massive shield and a big ass stick to beat people down for fun and profit?

Yea, that would be kick ass

I would totally use my big stick on people

Is Nail = Needle or something else?

At this point I just hope they add even more options for the DoM. I don't think saying that our current mages already cover everything is a valid counter-argument when it looks like we're going to have a lot of melee whose ultimate purpose will be the same (damage and kill the mob), just performed differently.

EDIT- Replying to the post above, it says in the manual that not all classes would be available for testing, and we have a guild for Arcanists and Musketeers already. I don't think it's far-fetched to think these classes will be at retail. I think having the guilds sitting there for over a year would be comparable to them releasing Blue Mage, Puppetmaster and Corsair with WOTG rather than TOAU, years after introducing them.
Another mage seems likely, but the possibility of some of these classes being held of until a further update or an expansion isn't unlikely.

We didn't get to see this happen in FFXI but this was exactly what happened with Zilart. When it released, SMN, DRG, NIN and SAM were introduced, but well before then, mobs were already wielding GKTs, having pet spirits and so on. XI never had job guilds or such, but we did have NPCs that were of these said jobs way before they were made available. These were also jobs that were planned from the start. ToAU/WotG jobs were slightly different in that I don't think they were ever part of the original plan.

Quoted From the NA FFXIV Site on Gladiator
"Gladiators specialize in the handling of all manners of one handed-blades, from daggers to longswords, be they single- or double-edged, straight or curved."

Idk if this is SE sayin that Gladiator is ONLY single handed or that they are just better with it but, can still use a greatsword.

Just curious, are the 3-letter abbreviations that are being listed official from the .dats, or did we just make those up?

Spira: Good points. I wonder if FFXI actually felt unfinished without Zilart, since it had jobs/lore hanging around, and even unfinished storyline (Rank 6 ends in a cliffhanger, since you just black out, and Rank 10 was added with Zilart).

I still hope everything here makes it to the retail game : p

Hmmm....was going to use a name of "Jez God", but to be the first "Jesus Christ" Shepherd might be too much to resist.

So for Mystic do you think they'll imply an original type of weapon for them?

Possibly just "original" type of magic. I think the limitations for mage arms are much less severe than for the DoW weaponry, so they specialize in magic instead of weapon type. I mean, I think Conj/Thaum can both use staves and rods?

    Just a guess though.

i dunno. i think theres still a distinction between what is primarily a Con and what is Thaum weapon

otherwise it just screws with the armoury system and you don't really have a way of switching between mage classes..

It would be interesting to see how an original weapon would work if Mystics could use them, however rods/staffs are probably what they'll use.

Also where's my gunblade class? D:

  20. #120

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the mage classes got a book or something as their weapon. Also I'm curious, if you put a DoW skill on a DoM class, do they finally hit the thing with their cane/rod/whatever?
