This was posted in the FFXIV Discussion thread by me, but has the potential to get lost and I consider it rather important so:

PGL = Pugilist
GLA = Gladiator
EXC = Marauder (Mistranslation)
FNC = Fencer (Uses a Rapier)
ENF = Enforcer (Uses a Mace)
ARC = Archer
LNC = Lancer
MSK = Musketeer (Uses a Gun)
MYS = Mystic (Uses a Mystic Weapon)
THM = Thaumaturge
CON = Conjurer
ACN = Archanist (Uses an Archanist Weapon)
WDK = Woodworker
BSM = Blacksmith
ARM = Armorer
GLD = Goldsmith
WVR = Weaver
ALC = Alchemist
CUL = Culinarian
HRV = Harvester
FSH = Fisher
SHP = Shepherd
??? = Tanner
??? = Botanist
??? = Miner
??? = Marauder

Pink are new and confirmed to exist, Green seem to be missing from the list.

Yes, just as Conjurer's weapon is named "Conjurer Weapon"

Probably just the code is spelled as such. It's spelled Arcanist's Guild on the map.

Lots of stuff in there is misspelled.

If I recall, Water Elemental was spelled Warter Elemental

I'm sure they'll go over it for the final thing and realize that Warts are a growth, not something you drink.

Unless Wart is a new element. Dont cast magic around the Warter elemental or it'll cast Wartga on your 130 pound punk ass bitch ass

Very unlikely as a BST ;/ You probably go around collecting crafting materials from live mobs.

Arcanist could also be a battle alchemist. Item magic, etc.

The mage names don't really tell us much unfortunately. I wonder what the name schemes are like in Japanese.

It's lumped in with the disciple of the hands or lands, can't remember which he said. So it's unlikely that it's a battle oriented class. Who knows though.

Edit: Reposting this from a /v/ post, wasn't certain on if it was factual or not, but it's looking more and more likely.

Doublt edit!:

"You party has exceeded the limit for archanima items." and "Your party has exceeded the limit for traps."
These are grouped together in the log messages. Square Enix has stated they are looking for methods to allow all Disciples to offer something in the battlefield. Perhaps this will be the means for an Alchemist to do that? Archanima is referred to as being ensorcelled with other items, and used to create an archanima field. Perhaps the forcefield we have seen?

Japanese names might shed some light on their purpose, although even for currently announced jobs they arent much help.

Thaumaturge is like curse-specialist and Conjurer was dubbed Illusionist because of it.

Yes, but what would a Shepherd gather to fit in with the other gathering classes? Wool? Hides? Shepherds are protectors, not killers.

I dunno, in the main alpha discussion thread I mentioned that a Shepherd might be armed with nothing but Charm, Shepherding staff, and the same piddly little rocks the other Disciples of the Land throw. Charm'd have to be a lot more reliable for such a defenseless class, though, perhaps even to the extent of perma-pets--the sheep dog that herds the sheep, for example.

Again, wild speculation.

Actually, one more idea: A gathering class with a faithful sheep dog-esque companion that gets the attention of unfriendly mobs while you gather materials from them. For example, Aldgoat's milk, fish scales, Ahriman tears, Spider venom--basically your pet (which would get tougher as you level up) would pull hate while you milk the mobs. Ha! (Edit: I started typing this before Kachi said that, I promise )
