    Computer Chairs

I figured this would be the best place to post about this; since it's kinda related to computers. :3

I'm looking into buying a new computer chair, but I have no clue where to start. The POS I've been using is over a decade old and is starting to really annoy the hell out of me. I have no clue what the price range is for a respectable computer chair that I'll be spending the next few years using... but I think I'm going to have to at least put a cap at 200 dollars.

What I'm looking for is something that stays comfortable in certain positions and allows me to sit down for hours at a time without being bothered. (It's either that or I move my room around so I can see my new monitor from my bed.) Besides the regular sitting position, the positions I most often use are a normal sitting position with one of my feet on the chair, so that my leg is pressed against my chest and I can rest my head on my knee if I so wished. The other is me sitting on my tailbone with my feet on my edge of my desk, usually putting my arms under my legs to type. While in that last position I usually like to push back on the chair and kind of lift it up in the front.

So yeah, any help in my quest to find an adequate computer chair is much appreciated.

Really do get what you pay for with them, think I paid something like £120 for mine (about as much as I paid for my desk) but it was worth it because it's comfortable and doesn't kill my back like cheaper ones do. Only problem is that the cat rates it incredibly highly too so if you get up for a second you return to a black cat, sat on a black chair, legs pointing up in the air with claws out (evil git that it is). I'm also a picky sod and didn't want a leather one because of the leather in summer burning your arse off aspect of things.

Mine was a Staples job - but it's really worth going and trying them out - can sometimes get their end of line ex-display ones cheaper as well (and ready assembled so you don't need the MSc in flat pack furniture construction).

I saw some awesome ones at ikea last week. Didn't expect it, but my new chair is definitely coming from there.

Expect to pay $200 anywhere you shop; anything less and you're going to hit wear and tear limit in less than a year, and anything that may be comfortable for the first few weeks will become definitely not comfy after that.

IKEA is win, go there, sit in a bunch, find one you like.

You say 200 is your cap, so this isn't realistic, but if you want something that really sings, this guy knows how to make a chair.

I made a thread like this and finally bought this chair recently (like 2 weeks ago): http://www.amazon.com/Executive-High...4489719&sr=1-5

It's the lowest price I've found the same chair for, and it's very nice. Read the reviews. Has regular up/down adjustment, seat tilt (standard is this weird SLIDE ME OUT OF MY CHAIR but goes back pretty far and locks wherever you want it to), and back tilt. Arms adjustable in both closeness to your body as well as up/down (to adjust them closer/further to/from you you have to flip the chair over, inconvenient I guess.) Everything is very adjustable.

If I really had to complain, I guess:
-arms having to be adjusted from the underside with l-wrench if you want to have them closer/further.
-no headrest. But I dont really lean back or sleep or anything in my chair lol

I really like the chair, and find it very easy to adjust throughout the day depending on what I'm doing (up if I'm working/playing a game, back if I'm watching anime or youtube or something.) Comfy

I dunno about that, my brother bought the chair I use about 7 years ago and its still great. Didn't cost more than 70-80 bucks either, only 1 small tear and its been through a ton of abuse. I don't think you HAVE to spend 200+.

    Buy your chair from Staples.

It costs $10-30 for a extended warranty, if it gets shitty or you just want a new one, they credit you the full amount for any new chair.

This chair caught my eye the other day. It's a must have if you're a tall person, because the headrest is actually tall enough for me (I'm 6'3). Plus it's pretty damn comfy when I sat on it.

I am considering this one: http://www.overstock.com/Office-Furn...e7#custreviews

Not really sure if I should go with the high back version for $225 or not.

I use one of those backless ergonomic ones because it can actually store completely under my desk, and you can't stay in it when you are too tired or you start to fall out of it. It's got a seat and a knee rest, no back. It forces you to sit with proper posture to keep your balance in it.

I haven't been able to find one in years. The one I have is around 5 years old.

Looks like I should take a trip to staples sometime soon then. I've always hated Ikea.. I have absolutely no clue why.. I think it has to do with being dragged there with my parents as a child with ADHD when they went furniture shopping. What the hell was I supposed to do if I wasn't allowed to hide in cabinets?!

This one looks interesting. Similar in nature to the one I'm using now.. but like.. 7 times better.

Be prepared to drop what a winter beater costs though they ain't cheap(800~1200 new, 600ish on ebay). But on the plus side my employer has had these chairs for over 10 years and not only are they still covered by warranty but they still look and sit like the day they bought them. Amazing build quality I will be buying 2 of these one for my home office and one for my wifes workstation.

Really though they're like sex for your lower back and it only gets better the longer you sit perfect for marathon youporning or gaming w/e your delight.

I got this really nice office chair for 200 at this big warehouse place that sells bulk used office equipment. They have everything from your shitty call center, mass-produced torture units to fully adjustable, baller CEO leather chairs and at good prices because of the used factor. They are usually listed under commercial office furniture directory listings.

Some are visibly used but the one I got was new and they had delivery service. I don't know if there is one in your area though. Relax The Back has insanely nice chairs but pricey ones.

I'm in my computer chair anywhere from 5-12 hours a day, do not buy staples chairs.

I've gone through a few, spent 200$ last time, very unhappy with everything I've tried. They just wear out too quick. I'm always looking for a new chair around 200 that I can sit in for the amount of time that I do and still stay comfortable.

Going to order this in a few minutes, it has great reviews and tigerdirect has a sweet return policy if I hate it.

That chair looks awesome. How much of an angle does the back recline to? I've been looking for a good chair with good back tilt but nothing's been doing it for me for the past year and a half.
