I still don't understand people who buy cheap shitty beer to get drunk. One, it's fucking disgusting and has no flavor and two, you can get way more blitzed on stronger craft beer. Is it a quantity issue? All my friends that drink BMC swill say they drink beer to get drunk so I fail to see how that would be the sticking point. I've proven to them that a sixer of a good craft beer is going to cost less than a 24 pack of BMC and will have way more alcohol and taste better but they do not listen.

This all the way. The average strength of the beer I drink is probably around 9% with some as high as 12%, lol, and they taste so good

Brass Monkey - that funky Monkey
    Brass Monkey - junkie
    That funky Monkey

Got this dance that's more than real
Drink Brass Monkey - here's how you feel
Put your left leg down - your right leg up
Tilt your head back - let's finish the cup
M.C.A. with the bottle - D. rocks the can
Adrock gets nice with Charlie Chan
We're offered Moet - we don't mind Chivas
Wherever we go with bring the Monkey with us
Adrock drinks three - Mike D. is D.
Double R. foots the bill most definitely
I drink Brass Monkey and I rock well
    I got a Castle in Brooklyn - that's where I dwell

    (repeat chorus)

Cause I drink it anytime - and anyplace
When it's time to get ill - I pour it on my face
Monkey tastes Def when you pour it on ice
Come on y'all it's time to get nice
Coolin' by the lockers getting kind of funky
Me and the crew - we're drinking Brass Monkey
This girl walked by - she gave me the eye
I reached in the locker - grabbed the Spanish Fly
I put it in the Monkey - mixed it in the cup
Went over to the girl, "Yo baby, what's up?"
I offered her a sip - the girl she gave me lip
It did begin the stuff wore in and now she's on my tip

    (repeat chorus)

Step up to the bar - put the girl down
She takes a big gulp and slaps it around
Take a sip - you can do it - you get right to it
We had a case in the place and we went right through it
You got a dry Martini - thinking you're cool
I'll take your place at the bar - I smack you off your stool
    I'll down a '40 dog" in a single gulp
And if you got beef you'll get beat to a pulp
Monkey and parties and reelin' and rockin'
Def, def - girls, girls - all y'all jockin'
The song and dance keeping you in a trance
If you don't buy my record I got my advance
    I drink it - I think it - I see it - I be it
I love Brass Monkey but I won't give D. it
We got the bottle - you got the cup
Come on everybody let's get ffffff

    (repeat chorus)

I've had it before. Actually really good. Not something I would order often that's for sure but very good regardless.

This. I haven't had cheap watery beer in years. Am I really the only person on here that likes Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale? That shit is the realness.

And OP, Stone Brewing is a San Diego company, not Colorado. I agree, they have some of, if not the best IPAs.

There was an article here in the local paper a few months back about the world beer cup and how San Diego breweries ran away with the show. http://ballastpointbrewingandspirits.com/Welcome.html won the best small brewer of the year. If you have microbrews around you, you should try and do a taste test at them. We rented a limo bus and went to 4 breweries and did alot of tasting. Needless to say, I got very drunk and had some of the best beers around.

any of you go to the ACBF last weekend? i was pouring for goose island on sunday night (volunteered; i don't work for GI or anything). nursing cups of bourbon county coffee stout, imperial brown goose, and matilda all night wasn't a bad job.

re: beer recommendations, this. my current go to beers are 4packs of brooklyn black chocolate stouts, 6packs of southern tier 2XIPA, and bombers of arrogant bastard, along with random others thrown in. the next beer i'll probably have (sick today) will likely be the sierra nevada 30th anniversary charlie, fred, and ken's, or the bottle of bruery coton i picked up from publick house provisions in boston before returning to the slums of east hartford.

re: locals, i like a nice jug of olde burnside now and then myself. if NEBC can be considered local, they're awesome too. if any of you are connecticut beer fans and you've never made it to the willi pub, drive out to that forested asshole section of CT, it's worth it.

brief google search yielded no coton beer porn, so text only post for you. if you ask nicely, though, i'll take a picture of the bottle next to my penis and post that.

Good luck and post pictures! The brew that I made last week was a wheat too. My Kolsch that I made a few months back is carbed and drinking really nicely right now. I've all but stopped bottling since it's so damned time consuming, I keg my beers now.

    @Flarega

I've been meaning to try that Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger beers after I saw they were the top two rated IPAs on BeerAdvocate, glad to hear you liked em.

Haven't tried that Dogfish Head, but they always make damn good beers.

Seen a few people throw out Sierra Nevada but idk, pretty much all the hardcore drinkers I've talked to about it really dislike the hops they use, thus the majority were not fans of SN beers...which I tend to agree with. Their IPA has to be one of the more higher selling IPAs though, I see it everywhere.

Has anyone ever tried this before?

    http://www.bruisin-ales.com/beerblog...stoneintro.gif

A guy I used to work with swore by this beer, I've never had it though and am looking for a second opinon. I saw it at my local liquor store and was thinking about picking some up to try.

Great beer, pretty sure its been mentioned a few times in the thread. Stone Brewing Co makes some great stuff in general, definitely worth a try. Their Ruination IPA is one of my favorite beers ever, although its not for the feint of heart.

I love the descriptions Stone uses for their beers lol...like the Ruination:

So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!
Edit lol, found the full label:

    http://www.stonebrew.com/tasting/rui...esign/back.gif

Reading that label makes me want some so bad haha, I am seriously considering going out and grabbing some from Total Wine right now, shit is so good. IPAs are definitely acquired tastes though, when I first started drinking real beer I still didnt like IPAs at all. Slowly worked my way up the ladder though, with the real breakthrough coming after I had Dogfish head and loved it. Ruination is all about those flowery hops though, one smell before drinking it and you realize what you just got yourself into XD

virtually every stone beer is good, especially staples like arrogant bastard.

and seriously, no snobbery intended, if you don't like it, you're probably just not ready for it. it takes time to get used to or into the flavor of really hoppy beers, and even some of the stranger malt flavors in arrogant bastard might be off-putting at first. however, after you immerse yourself in high quality beer for a long time, there's a strong chance you'll love arrogant bastard when you go back to it. i first tried it maybe 5 years ago and wasn't too into it. a little later i started getting into american IPAs (i used to only really like trappist beer and witbiers), and once i grew to love hops, AB became a top 5 beer for me. i don't even think it tastes particularly hoppy anymore.

if you don't already love hoppy beers, top tier "east coast" IPAs and DIPAs are probably the best entryway into them. i think 90min IPA (or harder to find squall IPA) is the best transition beer (and it remains a top beer after you've "transitioned").

edit: p.s. i did not read zoolander's post all the way through, so consider this one independent confirmation that dogfish head is a great entry into IPAs. the amazing beers you find once you enter definitely justify the effort, and yeah, ruination is awesome. my current favorite (D)IPAs are pliny the elder (jealous of the guy who just had some; i need to trade for it or otherwise jump through hoops to get it here on the east coast) and squall IPA (new batch just came out, and it's bangin).

since i skimped on the beer porn and we're mentioning arrogant bastard...

here's 2 bottles of stone beer in my shoes:

here's me about to drink a bomber of arrogant bastard out of some sort of boot glass:

here's my fat ass drinking some random belgian beer:

i'm trying to remember what the beer was... i can't remember shit when not drunk though, and i'm fairly sure i was drunk when i took that pic.

and finally, here's the character i created on my friend's tiger woods 09 ps3 game:

Funny you mention Squall IPA, just got a bottle of it to try for the first time. Rest of stuff waiting to be enjoyed in my fridge atm:

    http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...hoto_00014.jpg

Jai Alai IPA that I continue to plug. A- on BeerAdvocate
Humidor Series that is also the Jai Alai IPA, aged on Spanish Cedar...apparently it has a cigar-ish taste to it (it is the Cigar City Brewing Co after all) and is supposed to be great, can't wait to try it. A- on BA.
Stone IPA, haven't tried their straight up IPA but it is supposed to be really good. A- on BA
    Squall IPA by Dogfish Head
Andygator, Doppelbock by Abita. Only B- on BA, but might be tasty. Dad bought that one, probably because we are UF fans and his name is Andy lol.

cigar city ;_;. these guys need to hurry up and get even more hyped so their shit can get distributed up here in CT. as for stone IPA, it's very balanced, but not the bitterness or grapefruit bomb a lot of people might be looking for, nor particularly complex. squall speaks for itself hopefully(:. i've never had any beer from abita for some reason. i'll try to justify making another post by going on to point out that ayinger celebrator is the dopplebock.
