Wow i didn’t realize i didn’t post here. Crosspost as well from irl win thread, had a mazda protege 5 stick shift way back in 2004, 14 years later it was already not doing well. My dad wanted a project car/daily driver, so i decided to give it to him if he took me to the dealership in february of this year. Walked out that same day with a 2015 Focus ST:

Slapped some Michelin Pilot Super sports on her, and they are amazingly grippy. Cold air intake as well, and catback, need to get me a downpipe now. I also deleted the sound symposer which gives that fake sound since the interior is quiet. I dislike that newer cars today have fake exhaust sounds.

Soooooooo being in the tire industry I cringe when Pilot Super Sports come up. Michelin has been coasting on their name for the past decade without actually improving shit.

Try a Potenza S001. It's a driver's tire. The super sport is a tiny bit grippier in dry conditions and does a little better in the rain, but the s001 has absurd response. Steering is immediate and clear, particularly at high speeds. You know, when you want it. If you like breaking the ass end loose that's another area where it dogs super sports because of the precise feel of the steering. It's fun. Like flat out pure driving fun. I've never had another tire make me giggle like a kid when I first put them on like these. There's a reason they come stock on Enzos, the F12 Berlinetta, etc.

Now reviews drive me fucking crazy. I see it every day where people are so convinced that Michelin is better they don't give any other tires a real chance. Toyo HP IIs are amazing and super cheap for what you get. Fire hawk Indy 500s are absolutely baller for the price as well as far as UHP summer tires. Pirelli and Continental suffer from the same fate of having absolutely amazing tires for the first 20% of wear (seriously some of my favorites brand new) but they turn into dog shit after that.

So top tier will always be Michelin and Bridgestone, but there are some fantastic choices for about half the cost. I highly recommend on the next set walk away from Michelin and try something new.

One more aspect to the s001 to factor in, they're not quiet or smooth. They're not made to be. If you want a UHP that rides like glass try the Potenza S-04 Pole Position.

Thank you for your insight, and i’ll definitely keep this in mind for the future. When i got the car, they came with these cheap walmart chinese branded tires that were not good in the rain. I was recommended the michelins by many people, but i’ll take what you said into consideration for my future purchases.

Edit: the tires i got were the successor of the super sports, they’re the pilot sports 4S, but i’m pretty sure the opinion will remain the same.

Figure I'd ask here since it is a car thread. I have a 40% off coupon for Crutchfield Outlet and was looking at 2x MTX-TN12 2 ohm 12" subs. With a box they'd be $89 before tax. The outlet's amp prices seem pretty high. I haven't done anything car audio in a lifetime. What's a decent cheap amp I can get to run these?

edit: Read the email wrong. "Up to 40% off". The outlet prices are like, 5% off brand new or maybe a little better. Oh well question still stands. I really want to overhaul my sound. I asked a buddy what he'd do with my car and he said since it's the Ford Mach system he personally would rip the entire thing out because it's garbage. I'm not going that far!

Depends on the time of year. My daily driver is just a regular ol' 2015 Fusion. In the summer though, my wife and I sped time cruising around in either my 64 Olds or her 61 Vette.

Have a 1970 AAR Cuda at our shop right now that has 23k original miles.

Owner didn't realize it has left hand/right hand studs & lug nuts and broke all the studs on the driver side trying to take the wheel off when he got a flat.

Finally replaced my Lincoln last week. Nothing fancy, but a hell of a family vehicle. Getting a legit 26mpg, though I'll get a few more mpg once I swap the shit tires they put on there (Hancooks, gross). It's an SV, so it's got every option other than leather seats. Emergency forward and rearward braking, blind spot detection, heated seats, etc and so forth. Fuck ton of room in it.

Would have preferred a Toyota, but got out the door with it at $18k slightly used via enterprise car sales. We (Firestone) service vehicles for rental companies and they're the only ones that actually take care of the vehicles (scheduled maintenance, filters, not the bare minimum bullshit), plus it's not the kind of rental people look to drive into the dirt. Not to mention any repairs are dirt fucking cheap for me.

Gonna pay it off in a year then get another project car.
