Because character building is so boring. Granted, if that village doesn't serve a purpose in the future, then that was a giant waste of an episode. But the other episodes have all been vital to character/plot development.

The point is, kids are plot devices more often than actual characters. They're there to do some dumb shit, that gets someone else into trouble, and in the end they end up dead and drag the rest of the people with them. Have we seen a single kid character who DIDN'T do stupid shit?

The water village will be useful in the future for the mere reason that we know they're armed to the teeth and have the common enemy of the saviors.

I don't mind character development, just give me a little conflict on the main arc as well besides just continued Negan rape.
