    There's an update to download, and additions to the beta manual. Picked out differences posted today:

    Linkshells are community groups that can be created by any player using an item also known as a linkshell, which can be purchased from various NPCs. To join a linkshell, you must first be invited.
    While your linkshell is equipped, you will be able to converse with other members of your linkshell over the “Linkshell” chat mode, regardless of where you are. When you have equipped a linkshell, that linkshell’s crest will be displayed beside your display name.

    *A single character can join up to eight linkshells.
    *A single linkshell can have a maximum of 128 members.
    *A linkshell’s name can be up to 31 alphanumeric characters long.

    Linkshell Administration
    Linkshells are made up of masters, leaders, and members. Linkshell administration is only handled by masters and leaders.

    Powers allotted to masters:

    * Disbanding the linkshell
    * Altering the linkshell’s crest
    * Inviting new members
    * Promoting members to leaders, demoting leaders to members
    * Exiling members and leaders from the linkshell


    Powers allotted to leaders:

    * Inviting new members
    * Exiling members from the linkshell

    Entering a text command starting with the “/” key allows players to change equipment, use abilities, and perform other various actions.
    *During the Beta Test, the following text commands can be used.

    /?
    Displays the help message associated with that command. Works with abbreviated commands as well.

    Format:
    /? [text command]

    Example:
    /? action
    Will display the help message for the /action command in the log window.


    /chatmode
    Sets the default chat mode.
    When setting the chat mode to “Tell,” you will also need to designate the PC with whom to chat.
    If you do not enter the chat mode to use, the currently set chat mode will be displayed.

    Format:
    /chatmode [chat mode]

    Example:
    /chatmode party
    Will set the default chat mode to “Party.”


    /action (/ac)
    Performs a designated action on a designated character.
    Cannot be used in areas where certain actions cannot be performed, or if you cannot remember the name of the action to perform.

    Format:
    /action [action name] [sub-command [target]

    Sub-commands:
    Main Hand (main) Performs an action equipped to the main hand.
    Off Hand (sub) Performs an action equipped to the off hand.
    Nothing Performs an action equipped to the main hand.

    Example:
    /action cure main me or /action cure me
    Cures yourself with a Cure spell equipped to your main hand.

    Note:
    If you want to use an action equipped to your off hand, you will need to designate so with a sub-command.


    Example:
    /action shield bash sub [target]
    If you want to use the action equipped to your off hand and you enter /action shield bash [target], the command will end in an error.


    /equipaction (/eaction)
    Equip an action to a slot.
    If an action name is not entered, the action equipped to that slot will be unequipped. However, you cannot unequip class-specific actions.
    You can designate any slot from 1 to 30.

    Format:
    /equipaction [slot number] [action name] [sub-command]

    Sub-commands:
    Main Hand (main) Performs an action equipped to the main hand.
    Off Hand (sub) Performs an action equipped to the off hand.
    Nothing Performs an action equipped to the main hand.

    Example:
    /equipaction 10 cure main or /equipaction 10 cure
    Equips the Cure spell to the main hand and sets it to slot number 10.

    Note:
    If you want to equip an action to your off hand, you will need to designate so with a sub-command.

    Example:
    /equipaction 10 shield bash sub
    If you need to equip the action to your off hand and you enter /equipaction 10 shield bash, the command will end in an error.


    /equip
    Equip an item to a gear slot. If an item name is not entered, the item equipped to that gear slot will be unequipped.

    Format:
    /equip [gear slot] [item name]

    Pack (pack)
    Pouch (pouch)

    • Players will now obtain “guild marks” upon a successful completion of a levequest.
      Each class will receive guild marks corresponding to their class. This currency can then be traded to a specific NPCs for various types of rewards.
      The amount of guild marks players currently possess can be verified via the "Currency" option located within the Inventory menu.


    A message and sound effect will now play upon a successful completion of a quest.

    A section for completed quests has been added to the Journal.

    The cast timer for Return and Teleport has been removed.
    Players will now be immediately teleported once they select their destination.

    The countdown timer for logging out has been removed.
    Players will now log out immediately once they select the "Log Out" option.


    [Battle-related]

    The following classes have been added:

    • Disciple of the Land – Fisher
    • Disciple of the Hand – Armorer, Goldsmith, Alchemist, and Culinarian




    The following changes have been made to the how characters toggle between Passive / Active modes:

    • Characters will automatically toggle to Active mode if they attack an enemy while in Passive mode
    • Characters will automatically toggle to Passive mode if they speak to an NPC while in Active mode


    New abilities and spells have been added.

    Players will be able to select either a single target or an area effect when casting certain spells.

    An animation effect will now be displayed when a character's physical level increases.

    Changes have been made to the attack animations and the animation effect for when an attack successfully lands on a character.

    The KO penalty has been decreased from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.


    [Item-related]

    The following additions have been made to the synthesis system:

    • New abilities have been added.
    • New recipes have been added.


    The following changes and additions have been made to the gathering system:

    • The fisher class will be able to use the actions "Fish" and "Spearfish."
    • New abilities have been added.
    • New gathering points have been added and locations of existing gathering points have been adjusted.


    New pieces of equipment have been added.

    Various new items have been added.

    The goods stocked by vendor NPCs have been adjusted.


    [System-related]

    New options have been added to the character creation process.



    The main menu can now be opened by clicking on the system menu icon.

    Page scrolling has been added to the Inventory menu.

    Additional icons that represent moon phases and the weather have been added to the server latency widget.



    Certain NPCs have been given a unique chat window.



    The following changes and additions have been made to the party recruitment system:

    • Players will be able to join a party without changing classes, as long as they meet the recruitment conditions.
    • Players will be able to send party invites to a player in another area, as long as they are in the same region.


    The following changes and additions have been made to the map feature:

    • The scrolling speed of the map has been improved.
    • "Eorzea" has been added to the map list.


    “Macros" has been added to the Configuration sub-menu.
    With macros, players will be able to execute multiple actions with one command.

    Text commands have been added.
    Entering a text command starting with the "/" key allows players to change equipment, use abilities, and perform other various actions. During the Beta Test, "/action" will execute the specified action, "/equipaction" will equip the action in the specified slot, and "/equip" will equip the item in the specified gear slot.

    The auto-translate feature has been added.
    Players can utilize this feature by pushing the Tab key while in chat mode. The tool will automatically complete a partially input word, as well as translate the word to the language indicated in the viewing player's language settings.



    The chat modes "/linkshell" and "/echo" has been added.

    • Any message input in the linkshelll chat mode can be seen only by a linkshell member.
    • Any message input in the echo chat mode can be seen only by the player entering the command.


    Players will now be able to switch their default chat mode.
    Players can switch their chat mode by entering the text command "/chatmode," followed by the corresponding chat mode.

    Certain changes have been made to keyboard and mouse controls.

    Currently, we are experiencing technical difficulties with FINAL FANTASY where certain areas of the servers would go down on numerous occassions. The issue is currently being investigated, but we will require some time to address the matter.

    Due to these issues, we have decided to temporarily suspend the beta test as of Aug. 12, 2010 at 8:00 (PDT).

    Please be advised that we have not been able to determine when the service will be back up, but we will make sure to let you know as soon as it is determined.

    We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.
    No time given for when it'll come back up.

    The FINAL FANTASY XIV beta test was temporarily suspended due to an issue where the servers for certain areas would go down on numerous occasions. However, we are pleased to announce that the issue has been resolved and the beta test will be reinstated as of Aug. 13, 2010 at 09:20 (GMT). 14:00(est)

    As of Aug. 15, 2010, we have confirmed the following issues. Please note that these issues need not be reported via submission of Bug Report forms.

    [Known Issues]

    - During gameplay, the following may occur:
    ・Graphics may display incorrectly.
    ・Error messages may appear.
    * If this occurs, please log out and then back in.

    - During gameplay, characters may become unable to move in certain locations.
    * If this occurs, please use the Return or Teleport command. If the problem persists, please log out and then back in, or create a new character.

    - During events when players are "bound by duty," the screen may occasionally black out, preventing gameplay.
    * If this occurs, force the FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version to close and then log in again.

    - If a player is KO'd just as the Return command takes effect, they may be unable to move upon reaching their destination.
    * If possible, please log out and then back in. Otherwise, force the FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version to close and then log in again.

    - Information regarding ongoing levequest may not appear properly.

    - If a player moves the compass widget outside of the screen and then opens the main menu, they may not be able to move it back within the screen.
    * Please avoid moving the compass widget, followed by opening the main menu.

    - Recast timers may occasionally display "00:00" after using an action.

    - It may take a while until the durability of equipment is properly displayed.
    * The durability will display properly by closing the window, and then reopening it.

    - The following filter settings are not operational:
    → "You perform a synthesis"
    → "ther player performs a synthesis"
    → "ou perform a gathering action"
    → "Other player performs a gathering action"
    * The filter settings in question are under "System Messages."

    - If a player invites another player who has received a linkshell invite, the message "The player has already been invited to another party" may appear.

    - A player may be unable to successfully join a party if they were removed from a linkshell.
    * If this occurs, please log out and then back in.

    - A player may be unable remove a member from the linkshell once they are assigned as the linkshell leader.

    - The linkshell member list may not display properly if linkshell members are too far from the player that is trying to view the list.

    - Words provided by the auto-complete/auto-translation feature may not display properly when used in macros.

    - If the leader of a party leaves, the remaining members may be unable to ask the leader to rejoin the party in certain situations.

    Is it just me or did they add 1 or 2 options to toggle in the Config. menu? Clipping distance and something else... Still haven't fixed the auto-target kanji shit.
