New GTX 460; low FPS in FFXI

I just installed a new video card yesterday, and apparently it doesn't like FFXI. This is the video card

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130563

I updated the drivers, restarted the computer, opened FFXI without windower, everything I could think of. I don't have settings pumped up, shadows off etc, but that shouldn't matter with this video card. Basically, if there are npcs/mobs or players on my screen I get 2-3 FPS. It takes forever for NPCs to load on my screen. I found this one spot in Windurst where there are no NPCs, and I'm getting 30 FPS as long as I'm in this little area.

I'm not having problems with any other games, just FFXI.

Any ideas of what's going on/how to fix this?

its same w/ me Sets, I bought a gtx 480 3 weeks ago and my fps is total shit in XI. I mean in campaign i get like 4-7fps lol, and anywhere its semi crowded I get (at best) 10-15fps. Whitegate AH is, 2-3ffps at best.. Sounds like we have the same issues
And no, my cpu and everything else isn't a bottleneck, but it became very noticeable ever since I replaced my 285 w/a 480

Huge thread on this. Hopefully the new drivers next month fix it.

I doubt they are going to fix it. Have had issues with my 275 gtx and this game since I bought the card last year and nvidia support insisted it wasn't because of their drivers. I get better FPS in 14 than I do in 11 which is just hilariously sad.

Try the new beta drivers, fixed some of my FPS issues in XI but really, I just put together my old Core2Duo and GTX260 together because FFXI doesn't like my main computer. Pretty sad

I tried the beta drivers a couple days ago, didn't work. Nvidia has said in the thread link i posted that fixing the FPS in XI "is one of our top bugs on the must fix so I don't expect it to be much longer for it to be resolved".

No, I was talking about a 480, my 480. And that's a nice temp list, but where are the comparable cards? 4870x2, 5970, etc... Obviously the higher end cards are going to have more heat and power use. I have to benchmark and stresstest my card to break 90c, most gaming won't do it. But that might have to do with my airflow around it as well as my rooms ambient temp being a lower than that chart.

edit: just saw your source link... "To push the cards we test to their absolute limit, we use OCCT in full-screen 2560x1600 mode, and allow it to run for 30 minutes, which includes a one minute lull at the start, and a three minute lull at the end."

So... yeah. Cool chart though. My stresstest stops at 100c but it takes a while to get there.

dated back in march tho. So hopefully Nvidia gets on the ball and makes some much needed revisions. No doubt its a beast of a card, but for 500 bucks.. ima just stick with my 5870.

nice little review of the 460s in sli. They look to be little power houses when you slap 2 together. Very nice would def sell my 5870 if i could catch 2 of these.

Would you stick your 5870 in a spare computer to play FFXI then?
